i don't beleive that using ops had much to do with getting the cam open. it seems to me that those who reported having ops somehow "unlock them" already had them unlocked and by chance it worked for them that time. nerve pinch or Ops to check, either way should work, but it never hurts to have another method to try by

It sounds like you've fried the no_name partition where videos are saved. It's usually fixable with a format operation in Ops, but you'll need to get in first.
I guess from here I should keep jabbin the resist in hopes of getting in?

short You bet. If you have the 3.62 jab a short jab just before the beep. Should only take a few tries. 3.70 is just after...

Thanks caterpillar, about 100 more quick jabs last night , no luck. I can nail the no text screen about 4 out of 5 times just as the beep is dropping of but no unlock. I see mention elswhere of your triple jab/short method, could you explain further or did I misunderstand?
caterpillarclub- 02-01-2006
version What version of firmware do you have, and what batteries? The triple short is shorting before the beep, after the beep and before the PD screen. I do this each time I do the short, so it's a series of shorts on one powerup.

both the cams i am fiddling with are 3.7b3 , both purchased a few weeks ago at diff stores, duracell batts. One set of batts clearly marked for US sale, english only, from a cam thats been recycled the other set is duracell also but marked in english and french from a virgin cam

roughly 20 triple shorts , about 1/2 the time I get a black backlit screen and have to pull batts to shutdown, all other attempts result in textless screen but no unlock, will keep pokin away.

panaceabeachbum, what version of Ops are you using? I ask because I had a 3.7 camera that I simply *couldn't* get an unlock after several no-text screens with a single short after the beep. In anticipation of buying a 3.4 camera, I desoldered my USB cable and consigned myself to waiting. Last night I realized that I was using an *ancient* version of Ops (0.4), instead of the newer 0.15. This was mostly because I clicked the first Sourceforge link I saw for Ops, assuming that the la-*test*-('") version would be available there. I just soldered my usb cable back on and am going to try to short and unlock it tonight.

I have been using .13 , I will look for the .15 version and give that a try, I have been checking both with pinch and ops , nothing positive as of yet. Feel like I am going to wear out my usb plug LOL. I have my usb soldered to the board with a strain relief knot, cable exiting thru side of case. Ops recognizes cam , but still get ever to familiar "sorry cant unlock" message. Maybe I'll nail it eventualy. Need to make a friend at CVS ;)

bricked one!  Last night I bricked a 3.7 B3 version after about 25 tries at the short method. It finally just went blank and even removing the batteries and installing them again won't bring it back to life. I had two prior successes with 3.7 versions but apparently Pure Digital has made some sort of change in the software. Good luck to those that continue.
Fumble Fingers!

My first one took over 200 shorts to brick, the la-*test*-('") one has survived over 400 attempts with the last 60 or so bieng the triple. Still lives but its stuck on the 20 min remain screen. I think I might wait a month or so for the possibility of another method. Wish I could find a 3.4, rc airplane is ready and waiting.

3.7 B3 unlock try....success!! Read the thread about the new "3 short" idea, and the "continuious short" one two for the 3.7's. I was previously trying to unlock this 3.7 B3 with this method:
-Quick short right before the beep.
-software used: ops .13
After a LOT of failed attempts, read about the new methods, so.......
1) Upgraded to ops .15
2) Tried the "3 short" method once....
This didn't unlock the cam. Cycled the power again, checked to make sure that it still was not unlocked. Then went to plan B. I wanted to try a variation on the continuous short, since it doesn't sound like a good idea to fry the logic. So what I did was apply a "slightly longer" short. That is, I shorted right before the beep, but held the short until the first "tone" was just ending........that unlocked the cam! The display was indicating:
20 00
00
When I did this. Hope this helps

Quickflash:
Do you know if you needed to use OPS to determine if the camera was unlockable? If you nerve pinch the camera, does it tell you that it is unitialized?
Quickflash- 02-02-2006
The process I used was:
1) Started up Ops .15, camera not connected to PC.
2) Shorted cam with slightly longer short.
3) Connected cam to USB cable.
4) Opened cam with Ops, then clicked on the unlock button.
