53.18 Quick Guide - Start to finish
CVS Camera Hack Quick and Dirty write up. Panther 1.Physically hack camera Logs of places to find how to do this – Quick way for 53.18 Remove sticker on back surrounding screen and power button. Remove battery compartment by sliding down – it is spring loaded so takes force Remove 4 screws revealed by sticker Push on sides to push in tabs (may need to use flathead screwdriver – I did not just pushed) Lift out carefully, in m230 version the power cables are connected via super glue, not the 4 pin power connector that used to be there. I left these cables connected to the motherboard and worked with it connected the entire time to the plastic housing. Solder a usb connector of choice to the motherboard contacts at the top. There is a 10 pin connector J5 marking is closest to pin 1 Pin 9 White Pin 8 Green Pin 7 Black Pin 6 Red If you look online you will find what the actual name of these is such as USB Data USB 5volt+ Ground etc. if you are using a standard usb connector that has been cannibalized from anything tho it should be the standard red black green white. Put it all back together and -*test*-('") – If you plug it into the computer and it XP says “found new hardware Saturn” It worked! If it didn't, check your solder connections, as well as the pin out make sure nothing is reversed. Also if you hardwired / short circuited something you may have ruined your camera and your usb port. Software install: If this didn't come with software you will want to find the following: CameraKit21 CronusKey1.3 (Per Amyn Below if you are having a 08 or 09 CR you will want BurningMan which can be found in Remember Remember) One Step setup (It has the drivers pre made and ready to go for the 53.18) Once you plugged in the camera comes up with the Saturn as stated previously (Cancel out of the add new hardware wizard we are not ready for it quite yet). Unplug the camera and install “CameraKit21” Default threw the install. It will then ask you if you want to run the LIB32 usb driver setup check mark it. Select next, then exit. Run thru the LIB32 install default all around. Have the run -*test*-('") program checked – let it run, then exit the -*test*-('"). (I honestly don't know if you *NEED* to do this.. however this is how I did it and it worked) Plug the camera back in and it will come up with the add new hardware wizard Do not search the Internet, select NO Then select “Choose from a specified location” Select the Drivers folder on the cd rom drive (or the zip file) provided. It will ask you repeatedly if you want to use the “Other Language” version say **YES** every time it asks if you want to use another language. Once the drivers are completed you are almost done! The camerakit21 should be in your programs menu run the OPS program Select Open Camera It should say it opened the camera – if it did not, make sure the camera is connected, that the drivers installed correctly, that there aren't any warnings on the device Etc. Etc. (FYI at this point the device will be calling itself CAMCORDER not SATURN) Now that the open camera came up the next button to push is UNLOCK It will tell you it failed; thats fine. (For BurningMan you will want to open the BurningKeys.txt file and place the challenges in their and use the file from Burningman. Thanks Amyn) Once its copied open up the CronusKeys.txt file. Go back to the OPS program and copy everything with a C in front of it Example: C 0489ffcad4a3dded70ff7e2d8775294636c277f984dc59048d835c51e1192c6e C 27b3573d067054ed450ac42830aaf78e3e01b263f2943084ff5766a0af7e8ca4 C 8590d87722bd8de8657134e5d62929ed45865ac7ae9f4c75609c5f645e8152e5 C 064709e1f0318ec7195d57ca419ac74a9179f68f81a7b5bdf979cd04b6c98818 Paste that into the CronusKeys.txt file replacing all the C lines in the text file. The CronusKeys.txt file should now have the first example line that it started with the “S” line and all the rest are the C lines you just pasted. Make sure there are no extra spaces or characters. Close the OPS program now! Save the file and then run Cronus This will generate the SaturnKeys.txt file. Copy the SaturnKeys.txt file into the CameraKit21 directory (Should be C:\Program Files\CameraKit21\) With your camera still connected, in case you disconnected it at any point - Run the OPS program again. Select OPEN to open the Camera Then Select UNLOCK If everything went well, it should be using the SaturnKeys.txt file and will give you a message that it is now unlocked. Now all you have to do is download your videos and play with the program. A few features do not work for the 53.18 but it definitely downloads videos, and formats the camera without a problem. You can play with the rest at your own risk. In the future to download from your camera – just plug it in, run OPS Select OPEN then UNLOCK then do whatever you want, you don't need to generate a new key file every time and copy it over, just the first time per camera. If you want to use the camera on multiple machines, make a copy of the SaturnKeys.txt file and place it into the camerakit21 directory on any machine you go to then you can skip the cronuskey step.
