Are there any CECB boxes that don't suck? I requested two coupons for CECB digital tuners, since our cable occasionally goes out, and it would be nice to have an option.
However, it seems that all of the tuners that you can use your coupon for either have poor signal issues, or lock up/crash randomly. The Zenith DTT900 seems to at least have good signal response, but suffers from the latter problem.
I've done a lot of reading, but so far no consensus has formed yet. Either that means they all suck, or not enough have been -*test*-('")ed yet.
Could you just add a circuit to automatically reset the unit if it locks?
Or I suppose you could just buy some boxes that can work with the coupon, sell them later for a profit, and buy a quality HDTV card.
Also note that they did not exclude PCI/PCI Express devices from the coupon program. They don't exclude SCSI either, but good luck finding one of those.
Oh yes, there's also the option of finding one with good hardware and hacking it.

that would be a good starting place for compairing
I've seen it. Unfortunately, it doesn't include a column for "locks up frequently"

I got two from Rat Shack (for when the cable goes out). They have not locked up when -*test*-('")ing them, but they do need a strong signal to get a nice picture. I was surprised to see how many channels were available over the air in my area. Might be worth putting up a "real" antenna instead of using an indoor antenna.
