Best type of connection
Hey, I wanted to know whether you guys would think adding a female USB or the palm connector would be easier and work better than the other. I think the USB should work pretty good, but i don't have a dremel. I'm kinda partial to the USB connectors from forumer.com/viewtopic.php?p=11165#11165>BG Micro. It's still good to have a palm cable around, for -*test*-('")ing the camcorder prior to doing all the work involved in installing the USB port.

Here is my "cheap" way to hook the 1Xuse CamCorders to my computer... First pic is the "SIP" connector soldered and hot-glued to the board. 2nd pic shows the connector sticking up through the top access hole. The red dot marks the red wire end of the connector. I went this way because of cost ($.30 for the connector) and because most of the time I strip the camera board out of the plastic (then it only weighs 35g) so I can mount it in a RC plane.

Depends what you're doing. If you're into PV2s and camcorders or have quite a few you want a palm. Otherwise, a port is nice to have around.

I have modified about 6 of the Video cameras with female b USB connectors. ( will post pics when I get them all together ) Will also do a small project write up if there is interest. I also have a palm cable to unlock and -*test*-('") the cameras before I mod them. I also use the perment unlock feature (forget what it is called) so I dont have to have the txt file to unlock them.

KDaver, I would be interested in seeing your USB mod pictures and the writeup. Also what file do you use for the permanent unlock? Vin

Reset Key?

no file...it's a checkbox in the cam settings area in OPS. use the most recent version ".20"

It is the lower right-hand click box as seen here. You only have to change it once. A good reason to use the Reset Key is you do not have to keep a copy of the saturnkey.txt file with you to unlock camcorder on another computer. (You will still need to download OPS and the drivers.)

Ok, Here are a few shots of the Mod I did for the USB connector. The cut on the back section of the case The connector and soldering job (Used 2 part Epoxy to hold the connector on) The Case when closed up I hope this helps people. I was thinking of doing this for others.. just not sure what I should charge.
