It has been suspected by those more experienced than I that PD has changed their algorithm.
I have a m230 w/ FW version 53.18 (a known openable firmware) that has a challenge listed below.

Unfortunately, it looks like the game has changed.

are you using the la-*test*-('") version of ops, your cord is soldered correctly, do you get the same exact challenge each and every time you try to open it?

Has anyone besides firestorm_v1 found a camcorder with a 17 challenge?
Falcon929- 05-01-2008
I just picked one up today that has a 17 challenge. I'm not having any luck with it. Here is my OPS output:
OPS v0.23 (libusb 0.1.10.1)
Found the camcorder: Pure Digital Inc. Saturn , VID:167B PID:0101
Found camcorder.

The challenge key was the same as response. Moving on to try known keys...
Checking if the Reset key matches the challenge
Last ditch attempt. challenge=response, but trying a regular unlock anyway.

I'll bet they kept the algorithm and just changed the seed.
Do you suppose PD updated their processing stations to make a key-catch impossible?
Any key-catchers wanna give it a shot?
Anonymous- 05-01-2008
I would love to....except its one hell of a trip

On second thought, maybe they are using quantum entanglement capabilities of a modified zoran chipset for unbreakable encryption.

Are we sure that Ops is reading the correct line of code? Could the challenge and response moved and Ops is merely reading the wrong location.

i'll look into that. but if that's true, we're in doo-doo, trying to tell the difference between old and new versions of the same firmware revision...
BillW- 05-02-2008
PD removed the ability for Ops to arbitrarily scan memory with the challenge retrieving function from the later firmwares - if Ops is looking in the wrong location with one of those firmware models, you'll get a bunch of zeros.
It's possible they've done something entirely new - mangling the challenge, based on the cam version retrieved. But it just seems easier for them to pick a new seed.
Anyway, all of this is just conjecture until someone capable of dumping the flash gets their hands on one of these oddballs. Another possiblity - extended unlock followed by a flash dump should get the challenge+response, which would confirm if it matches what Ops is retrieving.

knowing of one with a 17 challenge is much better than aimlessly hunting.
if you can donate a 17 cam, i'll gladly reimburse you with a non-17 cam, complete with whatever software mods you wish, muted sounds, changed backgrounds, etc. i'd definitely appreciate the offer.

Is there anyone left that knows how to use a PD camera to perform a key-catch for Falcon929 and has good friend at CVS?
I wonder if PD has also secured their processing stations from key-catches and extended power hacks. In order for either method to work the CVS station would have needed a recent upgrade.
SaturnNiGHTS- 05-06-2008
yeah, my pv2 is still functioning...and enough people come into the coffee shop from both riteaid and cvs that i could probably pull it off.
