is it possible to make a jpeg in paint and upload it as long as it is smaller?

is it possible to make a jpeg in paint and upload it as long as it is smaller? I dont think so, you must pass it through ImageAlchemy AFAIK, i dont think that it will kill the cam, because i uploaded a bad image once and it just showed black screen while it was supposed to show the right one... but i wouldn't try it without passing through IA OR... this is competely without documentation, so dont kill me if it ruins yyour cam, just edit the JPEG that you download fromthe cam in paint, ONLY PRESS SAVE (no saveas or anything) and then upload a dummy, then upload the edit. UPDATE: just get the gimp or GimpShop, easier and much safer http://gimp.org

hcker2000, I suggest you download a flash image of the p4 partition, open it in something like Winimage, replace whatever files you wish, and then upload the flash image to the cam. Some others in this thread have done so with great success... IMO it's a safer method than uploading files to p4. Do i still need to convert image using special software or i can use any editing soft like Ulead?

docwebhead- 10-12-2005

Anthing that can save a non-optimized, non-progressive jpeg with 4:2:1 colorspace and no preview or thumbnail can do it. GIMPshop is free and easier than GIMP. Use Save as... and Options to set those choices. Good luck!

Hello all :) I tried to unlock my new CVS camcorder with my saturn software but gave a message couldnot unlock cam by any method. is there a software update or fix for this? please help thank you This is DEFINATELY the wrong place to post this, but you have a 3.62 cam probably, the only way that they can be opened as far as we can do is to short pins six and sevin on the flash chip read "hardware method, everything old is new again" in the howto forum

i just finished a detailed description of how to make custom screens on the camcorder. http://wikiwonka.dolske.net/index.php/System_screens hope you enjoy! Thanks for that article, I now have a pic of my youngest son shortly after his birth as my startup/shutdown screens. However, my camera hangs after trying to delete clips now. If I'm using it standalone, record a clip, then hit the delete button twice it says "deleting video" but hangs there and doesn't delete the video and won't shut off. any ideas?

you might have a bad wav file. i think the one for delete is the one with 8 in the name, try copying a working one, rename it to the name of the delete wav, and putting it back in the p4 image.

I have trouble with changing the sound files. I the process I deleted SOUND0.WAV. Is there a way to upload this file.

lostchocolatelab- 10-27-2005

Wow, I have successfully returned from the edge. I tried replacing the screens and met with some extreme opposition. (thats what I get for cavaliering the process) I jumped in and just started replacing JPG's without reading the forum and others trials and tribulations, wow...big mistake! After the damage was done, my camera would start up and lock on the splash screen...all hope was not lost, becasue I was able to switch it out...but it wouldnt boot past. After I pulled my head out of the sand, I got through all the tips in this thread and tried the winimage route. While this was good to get an overview of what was going on and familliarize myself with the files...it never really worked out. I deleted the files suggested in this thread, then began the methodical powerup/unlock/replace/powerdown cycle, including the 0k dummy files and after some time was able to get things back to normal. RAISED FROM THE DEAD! Hacking indeed, it's hard to chart the exact path to recovery but with a little heavy handed perseverance I was able to triumph over my own impatience/stupidity. Of course...not satisifed with the default state, I had to dig in again. ;) I was able to swap out the splash and logo screen reliably but had problems replacing the shutdown screen. (which seemed to be at least part of my problem previosly) In comes twist's alternate shutdown screen that looks good and works like a charm, i'm extremely satisified having ressurected and modified the look. Here's the pic's I'm using: Love it Love it! LCL

I can't wait to build a cable for my camcorder. Maybe I should replace the screen with one that says "HAHA I hax0red your camera" and then return it to CVS for processing. We don't see your screens when we process your cams, we just rip the sticker off and slidethe whole thing lens up (screen down) into our processing bay. we do however hear the shutdown sound when we pull the cam out

Sucess!
Howdy people! I just wanted to thank everyone for the killer work at getting this project/obsession/disease up and running. I am finally able to upload/download movies, fiddle with settings and change screens. I thought I'd share my custom screens with you all. Feel free to use them if you want. Also, for those of you who are still struggling (like I was until about 10 minutes ago! :)) with the steps necessary to convert an image into 'cam format', here's a little help: Send me an email outlining what you want your screens to look like and I will make them for you. I will do this until I get too swamped to do them anymore, or until I get bored, which ever comes first. You must include in the email any graphics that you want in the screens, along with a clear description of what you would like it to look like. Please, no porn or obscene images/text. I will not make those kinds of images. Also, if you send me some junk message like "mk me the 1337 screen now!" or some other trash, I will ignore your email. OK, rant over, request away! I'm doing this as a small 'thank you' to the community and hopefully to help out a few new peps like myself that need a little push in the right direction. Later all! Elmojo elmojo@hotmail.com
