I had no luck with PSP. Had to use Image Alchemy. Make your screens in PSP then run trough Alchemy, works great May I ask you a question about images, I wonder what the options settings in JPEG when I save the image, I am using Paint Shop Pro 7.02 so what I have the options available are: Encoding: x Standard progressive Compression 15 |----V------------------------| That is all I have the options so what you would recommands me to do to save the image? Sorry its been mentioned in this thread already, but would an animated GIF work?

bobbarker- 07-31-2006

Don't think so...not even a regular JPEG will work, you need one saved through image alchemy.

ATKINC088- 07-31-2006

Duh me, for some reason I thought they where GIFs. Here's my array: http://img141.imageshack.us/slideshow/player.php?id=img141/323/1154325229fjz.smil I used GIMP and BillW's saving method and WinImage to load p4 to the camera. Worked great the first try!

SCOTTA1- 11-12-2006

ok after reading all the bad experiments here on changing the screen, I would like to know if I can take someones creation and try using it for a startup or shutdown or etc.. and can I just delete what I have and upload to the cam without dummy files and creating crap for a screen?

SaturnNiGHTS- 11-13-2006

use the 'p4/winimage" method, along with maxwell smart's "hello" screen. i think this should be cleaned up/made into its own thread. i have no problem doing it myself, composing a proper howto, as long as someone gives me the goahead

I hate to sound so stupid about this screen change but its not exactly clear to me. Ive hacked over a dozen cams but this is a new area and after reading im not confident (dont want to brick any of my jewels)

SCOTTA1- 11-16-2006

Well, I created a new startup screen for you guys. It simply says "hello." Preview: Download here: Alternative Splash Image hey twist, yer screens worked fine without error on a 3.62 but on a mod220 the shut down works but the splash tries to do the blackout thing and I have to power back up, but luckily back to original w/out bricking. What am i doing wrong?

SaturnNiGHTS- 11-16-2006

1. twist hasn't been on this forum since 2005 2. this howto has been deprecated 3. why are you posting here when there's a cleaner, better maintained thread? 4. please better desribe your problem mods, can you lock this? this is old information and a new howto has already been written.

CamCam- 11-16-2006

Are you injecting the jpg into the p4 partition and uploading or are you replacing individually? Injecting the file into your p4 and uploading it is the best method.

SaturnNiGHTS- 11-16-2006

what camcam said is right. i've described this in the new howto. the one you "gave me the goahead" to write.

SCOTTA1- 11-16-2006

what camcam said is right. i've described this in the new howto. the one you "gave me the goahead" to write. ok first I clicked on twists "quote" . Did not think it would come back here, was reading old stuff. Im sorry you have to comment on stuff like that. but anyway I just uploaded like twist suggested (keep in mind I said it worked just fine on a 3.62 by only doing the upload thing shutdown and splash) but same method didnt work on m220 so ok ill try the complicated way. I was only asking another Q? thanks in advance to all the others that reply w/out criticism

SaturnNiGHTS- 11-16-2006

--sighs-- i have described first on this thread to use the p4/winimage method. that's the most reliable way to do it. i then rewrite the howto to use that method, to which repeated success has been found with it. you then asked repeated questions in the new thread about screens to use, to which i had already provided two -*test*-('") screens where i specified they have been -*test*-('")ed in the actual howto. from there, you go back to the old, deprecated thread and then say you have problems using the old method. which you would have found out has problems if you read the thread completely. strangely enough, leading me to create a new howto in a new thread. hopefully you understand my frustration when it is quite clearly defined, but people deviate from the newest set of directions, then wonder why it doesn't work consistently. yes, i am criticizing. it leads to enlightenment and learning. we will praise your successes and point out your errors. just as people do with me.

SCOTTA1- 11-17-2006

AH , NOW YOU CAN Jump on me I forgot, this one was a rite aid cam (oops) but should it make a difference in changing the splash? The shutdown works.
