my logo.jpg <img src="http://www.nicrosin.net/images/chaos/logo.jpg"> Just out of curiosity, is that a straight comic book scan? If it is, then someone mispelled "shoot" :) Hehe, no, it's an old catchphrase joke, spelled "shot" on purpose. The original is "How do I shot web". :)

GWRedDragon- 08-24-2005

It's in the links thread on this board.

kolwon- 08-24-2005

go browse the links area, its under a different project name on sourceforge.

heres what i did to get it without any 0 byte trickery.. download newest ops update directory listing select the file you wish to overwrite (SPLASH.JPG) hit upload hit yes on warning box select the file i wanted to upload (SPLASH.JPG) lastly hit the power down camcorder button in ops. when i started up the camera it worked like a charm.

I've treid the imidiate shutdown on my cams, but the only thing that works is loading the 0byte file first, then uploading the other splash I want immediatly after (don't do a refresh or anything else, just immediatly upload one after the other).

Good point - when we started changing the splash screens we hadn't yet endeavored to implement the power down. Maybe I'll try that this evening to get my shutdown screen into order.

kolwon- 08-24-2005

well, i've changed all of my screens, one at a time (not sure if it matters) by straight uploading them over the current one, then using the power down button in ops. i got a 3.4 gb3051907957 b2. i also remember reading that the powerdown button is an important process in changing the usp.bin file. if you dont use the powerdown button, the camera will overwrite what you want, with what it wants.

Ohhh NOOOO!!! It's Dead Jim.... OK should of done more reading before screwing with it, but maybe someone can help. I wanted to change my splash screen, here is my story: Deleted Splash.jpg and put my pic in, got error when writing. Rebooted cam and deleted my pic then uploaded default pic. Restarted cam but had no splash screen. deleted splash screen then uploaded original again, refreshed, all looks good. Uploaded dummy file over splash, shutdown, now it will not connect, will not power on.... Nothing... Help???

I suspect that you "wrapped" into the firmware region of the FLASH memory - and overwrote firmware with image data. That means we should probably be a bit careful about not overfilling that partition.

Well got a new cam to start over.

If only the flash media was easily removable by mere mortals.

If the flash can be saved on a red shouldn't one on the vid be close by? Now I want to customize pics again but I'm afraid. Is there an idots guide to doing this?

radarman- 08-25-2005

Unfortunately, the only thing the PV2 and the camcorder share is the connector pinout. Practically every thing else is different. Different microcontroller architecture (v8 microrisc vs MIPS R3000), different flash size, different software architecture, you name it. It will take a bit, but I have no doubt that someone will figure out how to slurp the entire flash through the USB port. Once that happens, I suspect a lot of things will start happening quickly. Until then, every little step is fraught with risk. That's the thrill. :)

Uploading pics and wavs to the camera right now is a risky proposition. Even if you follow the steps to someone elses success, you're not guaranteed the same results. IMO, you should listen to the fear and put it off for now. However, if someone is fearless, I have a theory that might be worth -*test*-('")ing on a cam. I think all of this trouble starts the first time you overrun the filesystem. If you avoid overrunning it, p4 will probably work just fine for file uploads. I base this on my experience of overrunning p0 and having it behave similarly for a while. (ie. refusing to overwrite files despite free space, black screening on poweroff after attempted overwrites) So... before uploading any files on the new cam, clear off some room by deleting useless files from p4, and then power cycle the cam. I'm betting file uploads will procede fine afterwards. Which files are useless? Anyone's guess is as good as mine.
