CVS Camcorder - A Dummies Guide
I though i would help a few people out who still are not sure wht they are doing. Evey one else has been so helpful i felt it was time to pitch in. If there are errors or corrections let me know. Also let me know if this helps you get it working. Regards Robogumby Hacking the CVS camcorder A dummies guide. 1. Buy one of these nifty little units. (you can try using a coupon and a CVS card for a $10 discount) 2. Pull the thing apart First Remove the battery cover (it has a small spring clip so is a little tricky) Then there are 4 small Phillips head screws on the screen side of the camera (just under that sticky label. If you don't want to pull the camera apart you can make the cable at this URL http://myweb.nmu.edu/~tstrothe/PV2mods/PV2mods.htm 3. Remove the circuit board (two small black Phillips head screws 4. Make your self a cable (Pin 1 is next to the label J5.) Using USB standard colors You will need to connect Pin 6 USB +5V (red wire) Pin 7 Ground (black wire) Pin 8 USB DATA + (green wire) Pin 9 USB DATA – (white wire) On the USB female end 1 (red) 2(white) 3(green) 4(black) 5. Download the libUSB0 software. http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=78138 you need both the bin and filter (filter contains the .sys file ******************** You may need to remove the libUSB0 driver to use other usb devices taskbar icon has been known to disapear *************************** and OPS (version 0.6 is most current) https://sourceforge.net/projects/pv2devkit/ or SaturnDownload 2.2 has the benifit of getting all the videos in one pass, no deleting between downloads http://members.cox.net/~ivier/SaturnDownloadv2.2.zip Step 5 can be replaced by using the quick install found here version 2.4 http://www.robogumby.com/cvs/ this also has the problem of the taskbar icon dissapearing 6. Plug in the camera and wait for the PC to identify it. But don’t look for drivers yet! 7. Unzip libUSB-win32 and run inf-wizard. (this will create the required inf file) 8. Now continue installing the device (Saturn) using the inf file you just created.and pointing to libUSB0.sys when needed. 9. Run the libusb-win32-filter-bin-0.1.10.1.exe 10. Unzip and run (OPS Connect unlock and download) or Saturn download your video.

Just a comment: These are some of the worse instructions I've ever read. For example: 5. Download the libUSB0 software. http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=78138 you need both the bin and filter (filter contains the .sys file Huh? theres one download there. What do you mean, you need the bin and filter? Which one is linked too, and where do you get the other one? . Unzip libUSB-win32 and run inf-wizard. (this will create the required inf file) Unzipping what you linked too install some lib USB thing, and thats it. The only executable is a -*test*-('") applicaiton. There is no inf-wizard. So youre instructions break right there You may want to clean up the instructions so they make more sense, and provide actual links to the correct downloads that are needed.

Download the la-*test*-('") Windows Quickinstaller at the link below. It does all the work for you. http://www.robogumby.com/cvs/

Pin this please under How To methods please! This is a straight forward guide, that still works. Those other guides are hard to follow.

Amyn- 01-23-2007

STOP READING THIS GUIDE!!! Didn't mean to be harsh, but your "working" guide is extremely out of date. You have all the hardware parts down, so don't panick if you soldered your usb cable in. The problem lies in step #5 (software). The quickinstall and Ops .6 are out of date. Why is this so important? The older software will not work with the newer camcorders. For software, you need: -Las-*test*-('") version of Ops (As of now, Ops .20) and Libusb Drivers OR **RECOMMENDED** -Las-*test*-('") version of CamcorderKit (As of now, 20) CamcorderKit has Ops 20 and the las-*test*-('") libusb drivers. After installing this, move on to step #6 in the guide above. The Libusb files will be in the CamcorderKit folder: C:\Programfiles\Camcorderkit(version) The saturn.inf folder will already be in the the same folder as the INF-Wizard, so you can point straight to that, and you don't need to worry about making one. If you still cannot unlock your camcorder, PM me.

**EVEN MORE RECOMMENDED THAN CAMCORDERKIT** forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=4052>One-Click-Setup will install all the necessary software and install the drivers for you.
