Firmware ugrade for Ultra Flips
PD just added a downloadable firmware this month: http://www.theflip.com/support_ultra.shtml I suggest downloading a copy now for future use. That may eliminate all legal issues if anyone figures out how to port the firmware to the CVS camcorders. Please express your thoughts on legal issues. Just browsing the downloaded exe in hex reveals the old dead beef reset key! Odd that BillW now has an avatar with recycled dead beef! :?

interesting..... there are 2 ELFs in the firmware... one at 0x0200. and another actually in a partition. the 2nd is named main.elf. Looks like the flips use the one at 0x0200 as a bootloader. Making it more likely to survive firmware hacks. Too bad i dont have a flip, heh.

My thoughts are that we should be exploring legal venues. When the firmware was originally examined it looked like they had leveraged Open Source components in it. At that point.... THEY ARE LEGALLY COMMITTED TO POSTING THE ENTIRE SOURCE OF THE DERIVATIVE WORK.

well, at least ffmpeg is licensed under lgpl. if they didn't modify it, they have no obligation to post the code. it's a library, and they're using it as such.
