intersting behavior with a 230 FW53.14
i connected the 230 to my laptop and used ops for linux (followed a link in a message here, version 1.4 -new i think) to try and unlock the device. first i got: "Failed at 0xff read (read 4 bytes of response) i unplugged the cam, power cycled it, plugged it in after letting it 'boot' Then the error changed to: Failed at 0xfe write (set read response index) I can reproduce the second error. i cna not reproduce the first error. Letting the camera 'boot' dose not change the response I also plugged this 230 into another computer. I used the version of ops for linux found at source forge. This machine gives the first error only. the laptop is running gentoo while the other machine is running ubuntu 8.04 i was running ops as root In both cases the device is correctly 'opened' by ops this makes me think its a software issue. Any ideas about what I'm doing wrong would be appreciated. thanks

check your cable, it may either be too long or soldered poorly.

what would "too long" be? ive seen this work with 3 to 4 inch cables, mine is more like 20 inches i just popped a solder point while inspecting them, i guess ill redo those and try again

20 inches is about how long mine is, so that might not be it. is it plugged into a usb hub? mabey the front ports on your computer? try plugging it into the usb ports in the back.

I had the same trouble under linux and windows with 230 and 53.18 firmware. Then I upgrade to the la-*test*-('") ops.(23 i think) and that got the computer to see the challenge. The next problem I ran into was that there is a new challenge key that hasn't been unlocked yet. The challenge starts with 17. now with a new cable

that last key works! thank you very much on another note. i was able to reproduce the original problem on a windowsXP machine using ops020 (with cronuskeys) the unlock worked with ops21

mass storage?
i am able to download the movies and format the memory but when i try to enable mass storage i get the error: Failed to send Mass Storage Mode enable command is this a firmware issue or is there a workaround? thanks

That button does nothing for most cams. for your 53.14, you`ll need to use MassDug. Also, since i never get busted keys usually,.. i ran the challenge through again and it gave me the same key that CamCam gave you.
