linux: cvs as v4l / v4l2 - device?
hi there, i'm desperately seeking for a webcam that works with linux and delivers a higher resolution than qvga - it's stream will be used by gem to do motion detection. after searching around for a few days and having had a few cams around for evaluations (with less-than-satisfactory results), i remembered my trusty old cvs cam ... there was a modified inf-file around here a while ago that made this possible. so, here comes the big question: is there a way to use a 220 as a webcam with linux? it should appear (after unlocking) as a straight video4linux- (or, better still, as a video4linux2-) device and deliver frames with a resolution of 640x480 at 25 fps. afaik, there are drivers for zoran usb webcams in recent kernels ... any ideas (and pointers in the right direction) would be very much welcome. imho, it boils down to having a driver that automagically unlocks the cvs cam once it is plugged into an usb port, all other things could be left to the zoran driver (if this is the right one to drive this camera, anyway). with kind regards, thoralf.

things i've tried so far: - using the zr364xx kernel module (http://royale.zerezo.com/zr364xx/) that supports zoran coach chips. i tried v 0.64, which is still v4l (as i don't want to be bothered with colourspace conversations etc.)l, which compiled fine with 2.6.17, but had issues with 2.6.19. after unlocking the cam with ops-for-linux and trying to access the cam with v4l-applications, it gave timing errors and no picture. as a side note, ops-for-linux's capture feature didn't produce any usable video either. - using the pccam880 user space shim (http://www.harmwal.nl/pccam880/) that should work with zoran coaches as well. well, unfortunately, it didn't. any hints? thanks, thoralf.
