M230 was working, computer says "USB device not reconiz
Okay, my cam was working, then i accidently soldered of the data + pin, so i resoldered directly to L5, no problems, but not my computer says "USB Device Not Reconized One of the devices attached to this computer malfunctioned, and windows does not reconized it. For assistance in solving this problem, click this message." So, I click it, go through until i find where i check the driver, LibUSB (or whatever its called exactly) and all checks out fine, I've tried Ops, camcorder kit, one click install...all of them and none of them have it come up as saturn...any help is well appreciated...

I hate to say it, but.. Check your cable. That will throw the "Device Not Recognized" error.

CamCam- 11-22-2006

Did you solder to the top of L5 or the bottom? You may have severed the L5 connection by solder to it. If you have a multimeter check it to see the 2 are not shorted and they infact still have proper connection.

Ummm...

As far as I could tell, my solder was flawless, it was to the lower part of L5, +Data...at least i think it was L5, well..it gave me some kind of connection, while +Data was not connected, there was no connection...I will try to post some pics, gimme some time...

My favorite forumer.com/viewtopic.php?p=34305#34305>picture  to post... L5 is small, easy to short the + and - pins.

Well, hers a small vid showing connection..its on my parents 3.2MP digi cam, took me like an hour to get some good pics/vids cause i had to use its zoom and a magnifieing glass.... <object width="425" height="350"> <param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/8fMsRldKhOA"> </param> <embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/8fMsRldKhOA" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="350"> </embed> </object> try this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8fMsRldKhOA some pics once i upload will be next... and a size comparison...im using 30ga. magnet wire... thats a pic of 30ga. wire wrapped around a standard Riteaid camcorder battery, as you can see in the pictures/vid, my solder is quite small, and the +Data/-Data on L5 still have different connections, both getting power..and such...

Windows will see the device if there is a load on the 5+ even if the data lines are not connected, shorted together or connect backwards. It will see the device as Saturn if the data lines are connected correctly. You may want to try a different computer or remove the USB hub (if you are using one- potentially dangerous to your computers health if the camcorder is not connected correctly.) edit: after re-reviewing your picture, try moving the connection to the lower, left-hand side of L5 as seen in this forumer.com/viewtopic.php?p=34305#34305>image. Looks like you have connected to the lower, right-hand side of L5.

I admit I am a little confused... Regarding L5 position: I mean left-hand side of the image, I linked to, relative to the orientation of that image. I looks to me like your wire is connected to the side closest to the LCD connector (right-hand side.) Edit: OK, I can read, but don't always  Try removing the device though Device Manager and uninstalling OPS and drivers. Then reinstall.

Okay, im was gone yo my grandparents for thanksgiving, now im back, i think i understand what you mean, solder so it intercepts the connection after it goes throught L5? is that what you mean, im looking at the cam as if it is standing parallel in its case. therefore in my view i did solder to the bottom left, but from that picture, which is sideways, i soldered to the bottom right, i will go correct that, then reinstall Ops/drivers and try again!

Going back through the post you commented the camcorder is not seen by Windows until +Data is connected. Are you sure it is the +Data pad that came off. Windows should see the camcorder as an Unknown Device without the data line connected. It will see the camcorder as Saturn when the data lines are connected correctly. My other thought is... The +Data (white wire) should be connected to the top of L5 relative to this forumer.com/viewtopic.php?p=34305#34305>image. Top meaning the top of the image not the top of the board. The board is rotated 90 degrees counter-clock-wise in the image

I had it on the red and also...what is the use of L5, do you know?

CamCam- 11-23-2006

L5 is an inductor. It is used to filter the usb signals.

FRU swapper- 11-24-2006

+ Data blue or black. Think blue will utilize the filter. Black will not. I am using black with my current, FRU_cam (the second incarnation) without any communication issues. PS: good idea to use the color circles for clarification :D
