PureTool alpha 9/23/2006 I've had some success downloading on mac using puretool_9/23/2006.
I can see my movies, and quicktime says they have audio, but I hear no sound (I may have a problem with my quicktime/divx/xvid setup, though). I was not able to download usp.bin, but was able to download the p3 partition.
The error message while downloading usp.bin is:
---

Column 0 has row 2 selected
Identified root node
/ has 3 children
Column 1 has row 0 selected
Selected item is USP.BIN

DEBUG : Calling camcorder_download_file with block size 64
ERROR : Filename too long (max 12, got 16)
---
(I get the same kind of error if I try to download p4/logo.jpg or any other file.)
When I get to the last movie in the list, the completion bar just sits there.
The last movie appears to be downloaded properly, but puretool never finishes that operation. I have to kill it and restart to do more.
Movie download seems much slower on mac/puretool than pc/ops.
Or is that just my imagination?
I got my m230 into a state where starting record would just blank the screen. Pressing record again would turn on the red led and start the on-screen timer, but wouldn't appear to actually record anything. Power-cycling the camcorder fixed this. (All I had been changing was the bitrate.)
Also, if I attempt to download partition on partition_0, I get the following error:

nhillery1: Missing audio can be fixed with forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=1235>fixsound. Slow download speed is definitely a problem. The download pane not closing is known but I haven't tried to track down why it happens. I'll add notes about all of those to the readme.
Everything under "Advanced" should be considered even more experimental than normal. Download of a single file is failing because it looks like I'm mistaking the computer path for the camera path. I'll look at the partition 0 error later, I think I might be mis-mapping it.
koikoi- 09-30-2006
There's a bug in the PureTool 0.2006.09.23 where a reset key is not tried as a response. Most users should not run into it - this only affects newer camcorders with a reset key if the user is missing the example saturnkeys.txt (due to deleting it or not having it in the cwd when starting from the command line). A workaround is to have a copy of saturnkeys.txt in the appropriate place.
nhillery: Downloading partition 0 on my M230 failed with pretty much the same error you saw, but my M200 works. Interesting.
koikoi- 09-30-2006
Unlike the M200, my M230 does not have an EBR on partition 0; the boot record is block 0 (like all the other partitions) instead of block 1 (as on the M200).
However, I don't see Ops doing anything differently for the new camcorders; I think even Ops should fail when trying to download partition 0 from a M230 (perhaps any new camcorders) -- can someone verify this?
RayM- 10-01-2006
When I try with My M230 FW 53.05 and 53.12 I get the message
Bad signature retrieved from partition's boot record
Bad signature retrieved from partition's boot record
Trouble retrieving p0.img
(yes, the bad sig. part twice in both attempts)
With a M220 33.19 I get
flash download was 1523200 bytes
Success retrieving p0.img
So I assume there was a problem.(But it did try)
With a M220 33.04 I get
flash download was 128663040 bytes
Success retrieving p0.img
So I assume this one is good

That's what *I* said.
FWIW, I linked with libusb 0.1.12 from Darwinports (though I haven't sync'd in a while).
Oh, and saturnchallenger 6.9 returns all zeros, linked with the same libusb.
I bought the cable from ZAC, so I'm relatively confident that the cable's good.

You might have to do your initial unlocking under WinXP. It's not as bad as it sounds.

It is if you don't have a WinXP system to unlock on.

I'm getting the same results as this with an m230 53.05. Anyone had success with saturnchallenger on osx? I'm very new to using the terminal. First I typed cd & then dragged the schallenger-6.9-enigma folder into the window to get in the directory. Then I typed sudo & dragged run-me-only.sh into the window. Is that even close to right?

I'm getting back a bogus challenge on OS X (see above) but OPS is working on XP (I commandeered a work machine).
I was able to generate a saturnkeys.txt but I still can't get PureTool to work.
Update: With saturnkeys.txt in the same directory as PureTool.app, PureTool doesn't work. However, if I run PureTool from the command-line from that directory, PureTool *does* work (at least, it listed the camcorder contents; then it froze the system--but I think that's a different problem; this box has been acting funny since the conclusion of the 10.4.8 seed so I'll be reinstalling it).
Update 2: When downloading a single file, PureTool is freezing at the end of the download (progress bar is full, but doesn't go away). No errors in Terminal (I'm stuck running from command-line, see above). However, the movie download appears to be complete and plays.
FWIW, I convert 'em to MP4 with iSquint and have no sound problems, though the original has stuttering sound when played in VLC.

GotAnMP3- 10-03-2006
You can do away with the need for a saturnkeys.txt if you reset the key on your camcorder, using the la-*test*-('") version of OPS under WinXP.
koikoi- 10-03-2006
Cerebus: Since you're able to run from the command line, you can get the challenge key by setting the log level to INFO or above - you don't need saturnchallenger anymore. This is more for the next person who needs to know, since you managed to work around it.
Interesting, being unable to run from the Finder but successfully from the command line is not expected. Anyone else seeing this?
Freezing at the end of the download is a known problem, but it's low priority since files download correctly.
In other news, my Intel mini arrived!
Cerebus- 10-04-2006
Koi--
OK, here's what I'm getting now. I've commandeered a comp @ work and unlocked two camcorders (53.05) and two still cameras (410 with firmware 6600). I've reset all four cameras with OPS and successfully downloaded movies & pics.
With the key reset, 0.2006.09.23 seems to be fine. Interestingly, \\\\"Download all\\\\" doesn't freeze. FWIW I was able to reproduce the \\\"can't find saturnkeys.txt\\\" problem at will.
Update--Um, I spoke too soon. 0.2006.9.23 is not fine; it still gives me:
ERROR : Unable to open saturnkeys.txt
ERROR : No matching keys found in saturnkeys.txt
Most of the time when launched from Finder, where \\"most\\" is defined as \\"every time but once.\\" :)
Running from the command line is fine every time, however.
--End update.
--Update 2:
If I run 0.2006.09.23 from the command line, exit, and then launch it from Finder, 0.2006.09.23 will run just fine every time. If I then unplug/replug the camcorder and launch 0.2006.09.23 from Finder, I get the above error.
0.2006.08.26 doesn't show this problem, and works from Finder with the key reset camcorder every time.
--end Update 2
