Need help - can't open camera
The info for my CVS camcorder shows as follows: 12/01/1964 18:28 FW-VERSION: 53.18 Realm ID = 20 GF5072901671 PCB VER:DC-6910 A5 I am running Linux, but I think this is more a unlocking problem, not an os-specific problem. I have ops-for-linux and also have avidownload. Here is what I am running into, and since I'm new at this I have no idea where to go now. Any help would be appreciated! With avidownload dave@dave-desktop:~/avidownload/src$ sudo ./avidownload Closing devices... Try shortening your USB cable or checking to see if you have any shorts between cables.

okay, seriously, i haven't even been back that long, but really. this post was from almost a year ago. it's way over with. stop just trying to reply to everything. and yes, i know his problem is solved. i helped him with it, and he's one of the linux developers now.

It may have been a year old... but I am having the same problem, right now. But only with one particular cam and only on Linux. Windows reads and unlocks this cam fine. Linux reads unlocks two other cams that I have, but not this one. Can you please post your solution to this problem? Thanks Steve

Calm down SN. See even though its a year old. It can still help people. Just because you know its been solved doesn't mean I know its been solved. People do make mistakes. Its a forum, not a war. Sorry Steve. Don't have any experience with Linux. But if you are running linux on a different computer than the windows, I suggest shortening your cable. The other computer might suffer from interference more than another computer.

Looks like my issue was taken care of last night. Mediadownload seems to be working where ops was failing. Hacking together parts of avidownload and ops also makes it work but not nearly as cleanly as mediadownload. As for the cable... I suppose it could be an issue, though it is the cable that I've soldered to all my prior cams before modding them with a USB jack in the case. Maybe the controller on this one just doesn't conform to specs as cleanly. I can try again once I've found my bag of USB jacks and installed one.
