You better use caution, it is not a very safe hack. Bad things can happen if things do not go as planned.

OK im sorry but I can't count that as an Informitve reply.
if you would like to help (and help us all, whatever I do or come up with will be returned here) be more specific or could someone else chime in
Thanks Scott

If you manage to kill their machine you will know exactly how informative I was. That hack is not a "help us all" hack, it was a mere suggestion that Brite had made awhile back and it happened to work. To my knowledge, only 2 people here have done it and I am one of them. If you choose to continue that is fine, but you will have to figure it out on your own as did I. But heed Brite's warning a few posts back.

how can i kill "their machine" by unplugging it and bringing home to hack?
CamCam- 03-06-2006
By the possiblity of shorting out the usb. It won't actually kill the computer, but it could damage it badly enough that it would not read anymore cams. Requiring it to be repaired by a PD tech possibly. Which would probably end your friends job and possibly land you in some trouble.

Man, I didn't even think about that. Ok guys sorry about all this stuff, I mearly wanted to help.
I guess Ill wait untill someone else finds a way to hack the 3.7s.
SCOTTA1- 03-07-2006
come on shawn you can do it. think of something. how about talking to some higher ups (cool ones though) just get them to tell you how to unlock the current ones?
CamCam- 03-07-2006
This method is not condoned by any of the admins. "The cool ones", which I assume is referring to me, will not help you either.
There are only 2 methods to get into a 33.04 outside of a flash removal. None of the admins support either method and will not provide anyone a howto.

Well I would if I could, but my managers don't have a clue about the keys. I even told my shift-supervisor about how I wanted to make the camcorder re-useable and he thought it was cool. But they are not provided with that information. There is no reason for them to know.

exactly, short of taking a PD station apart and doing some serious mucking with it, you're not gonna get much out of it. the software seems to be as simple as possible to operate, simpler to train poeple to use, and less liable to have any efforts like this one gleaning any info on the inner workings

Well crap. Those of us who can't solder are screwed then, huh....I'm not brave enough to do more than solder on the usb to my 33.04, much less make up a complicated flash-dump tool, flash transplant, power-on mod, or other precision soldering.
Bummer.

Hell, If I were the company making a custom POS machine, I would do as little custom work as possible. Take off-the-shelf parts and stick an operating system on there with a custom software package.
I would suppose that it is probably a Windows NT (maybe unix of some sort) box running a custom software package. I would also think that it has a hard disk. A flash memory setup came to mind, but that makes burning DVDs pretty complicated (storing lots of dumps, etc.).
If you have physical access to the box, watch what info it gives at startup. They might have a custom BIOS with a splash screen, but I would bet that there is some way to press a key and see what is behind it.
All we would need is for someone to download a copy of the software package off the computer. Pull a backup off the hard disk or something...
Maybe it could be as easy as burning it to one of those DVDs if they got lazy.

I assume the machine has USB ports...

I would suggest a long second look for anyone contemplating an "attack" on one of Pure Digital's processing stations. Such an attack, whether it be a download of an image, wireless tap to the machine, or any other way to gain access to the copyright material stored inside it, would be considered theft, and as such, opens a whole world of legal options for Pure Digital, CVS, RiteAid, etc. to pursue. And not only for the person who did the attack, but possibly this forum, if someone were to attempt to post the copyrighted material, or even any information gained from it. I'm no legal expert, but I would stay far away as possible from even the thought of attempting this.
What-ifs are fun to play, but let's make sure to stay safe and legal.

From what I've heard about the cradle, if it hooks up to the mainboard, then a standard front usb port from your case could be plugged in too. Or just use the normal USB ports on the back if there are any.
