Warning any shorting without raising pin 19 can result in a bricked camcorder for which there is no known recovery. I also suggest shorting between 2 flash pins (30,31) to avoid damaging Zoran chip. While shorting between 2 flash pins may corrupt flash more than using resistor method - removing power will allow another power up with unmodified flash since a raised pin 19 prevents any changes to flash.
Stay in focus - any posts that are not direct result of shorting 3.7 or 33.04 will be deleted from this topic.

Well I have bricked yet another cam, this one in less than 30 attempts, If you try the 2 second short it brings up the no text screen everytime if you hit the resist on or just after the beep, but I havent had any luck unlocking. I hit the resist with the 2 second "burst" just before the beep and the first couple of trys it resulted in a backlit black screen requiring batteries be pulled for shutdown. The last shot has left the cam perm in the backlit black screen condition.
3 qty 3.7b3s down none unlocked as of yet, gonna have to figure out something to do with the CCDs and lcd screens at some point , cant bring myself to toss them out.

thanks for the heads up.
the retailer I talked to mentioned they got a memo in nov to pull all the older cams, I guess all good things must.......
pboodi- 02-06-2006
Well then ....How do "they" get them open?
BillW- 02-06-2006
Each cam has a challenge (a lock) and a response (a key). Until you unlock the cam, it will not respond to any other useful commands.
Pure Digital/CVS/Rite-Aid have the full set of master keys to match the lock to every cam out there. After all, they're the ones who installed the locks in the first place.
We can see the locks, but we don't have the set of master keys.

well BillW, considering we pay you nothing why dont you have all the answers?? LOL

So.....It's kind of like when you buy software.
The software on your computer has a special number that is based on a calculation that is done when it is installed on your computer. This is the number you give to the software company. In response to your request they give you a different number to unlock the features of your new software.
Is this an accurate example of the challange and response?

Thats pretty much it as far as i can understand it, but most software serials are easy as pie to crack  Just sayin

I have firmweare 3.70 B3
Do I have to short exactly just after the beep or a couple of millisecond later and for how long? Very fast, 1/4 sec, 1/2 second?
Tks a lot.

Hey everyone, I've been reading since almost July and writing since December - thanks for the all the info, it was fun while it lasted.
Even in all my reading, haven't found out an answer to this: Why can't we get keys to the new ones? Surely there must be a way. I'm thinking we have to get our hands on one of those CVS machines and go at it. Anyone game for taking a job at CVS for a few weeks?
tmcleroy- 02-07-2006
That would be pretty cool. I'm surprised no one has done it yet. I would consider it if i were of age.

Why doesn't someone who has successfully unlocked a 33.04 share the key (or procedure) they used? I'm sure the answer is not as simple as the question makes it sound. I'm just curious of the reason why this can't be done.
