New Style Extended Power
New Style Extended Power. A potential method for noob single camcorder holders. This may work on "unlockable" "09" camcorders. I do not intend to -*test*-('") myself. 1. Cut usb power trace on pcb (hopefully in a way that you can repair). 2. Turn camcorder on. 3. Have 2 -*test*-('") videos processed at a processing station. 4. Run to your PC before batteries give out. 5. Open with OPS, do not click unlock, update directory, download USP.BIN. As usual the above should only be done under full disclosure to CVS photo tech. It is also advised to get approval from a store Manager to avoid any fraud issues when obtaining your response key. You should have photo tech to pull camcorder after video processing has started but before it is complete. If the processing station power downs the camcorder - you will need to try again but first apply a corresponding command script from my other camcorder keycatch thread.

Stupid Mutant bug_eye! After cutting USB power line - How do you expect to communicate via USB? Can an EE member please provide details for how to wire an "old style" continuous power from battery to usb.

hes doin the alter-ego thing again...

does the usb only work when it draws power?

Ground, Data + and Data - need to be connected, 5v+ does not. I posted an image quite awhile ago which illustrates how to wire a camcorder for extended unlock. Obviously, using an ordeal of cables isn't very discreet, but you did ask permission from the CVS employee first, right? All the PD processing stations should have front mounted USB ports now, but prior to that, I convered a CVS Blue PV2 camera into a PureDigital-to-USB adapter with a AAA battery holder built right in. That plus my palm cable is all it takes. I still have to admit though, Brite's PV2 key catch is a far more elegant solution. No messy cables or batteries, no potentially killing the USB ports on the processing station due to shoddy soldering...

Can't one simply disconnect battery wire from pcb, cut USB trace and solder battery wire to cut trace to power camcorder? Or is 3 volts not enough? What needs to be done with grounding if using battery power? I haven't yet given up on my OPS command scripts - PD added some new authorization (usb 0xfa00 command) index values - 202 and 203 which may be causing current difficulties on models after m200 (they are probably also in newer firmware for those recycled 200s). I am hoping someone tries the 3.40 monitor command script I posted in another thread. forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=5773" target="_blank">http://camerahacks.10.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=5773 Two new command scripts to try on 3.40 firmware: monitor wl 80006a60 0x00850100 # sw a1,100(a0) monitor wl 80006a63 0xac monitor wl 80006a64 0x00001025 # v0=0 monitor wl 80005188 0x080012b0 # j idx 3 (beeps then displays ready screen) And again with an instruction to relock: monitor wl 80006a60 0x00850100 # sw a1,100(a0) monitor wl 80006a63 0xac monitor wl 80006a64 0x00001025 # v0=0 monitor wl 80005188 0x080012b0 # j idx 3 (beeps then displays ready screen) monitor wl 8012f710 0x00000000

I disconnected the power line in my modified palm cable and soldered a jumper between 4,6 (battery - usb power) and between 2,10 (ground). While that worked fine for PV2 extended power allowing an unlock, unplug, replug and access without a second unlock, it does nothing for a Saturn camcorder. I suspect there is additional circuitry in Saturns that either somehow prevents flow from battery to usb or insists on 5 volts rather than just 3 volts. I am sure others can find a more compact way of getting 4.5 volts to usb pin 6 starting with GotAnMP3's diagram. I do not understand why I needed to jumper 2 to 10 for PV2. I think I'll stick with software solutions.
