no luck with a CVS red label I have a CVS model 410 red label, firmware 6600, USB 2B.
I DLed the integrated PV2TOOL installer, REV 2.19, which installed the USB driver package (in this case, 0.1.10.1). The "-*test*-('")" app in that package runs to completion no problem (0.1.8.0, which I tried earlier, gave me a BSOD).
As far as I've been able to get thus far is to plug in the camera, get two beeps out of it, and have my machine (WIN2K SP4) *try* to recognize it.
The camera is seen as a "USB device", which the OS can't find a driver for. When I point to the file libusb.inf in the libusb driver directory under Programs that the PV2TOOL installer created, and tell the OS to use that file for install info, I get this error:
"installation failed because a function driver was not specified for this device instance".
I'm using the default, unedited libusb.inf file, in that it includes a DEVICES entry ending in 2B, which is (I think) the ID of my camera, that based on what I get when I force the firmware display screen at camera boot (a "pinch"?).
Every time I stop the USB device "USB device", unplug it, and then replug it, my PC immediately recognizes that the "USB device" has been plugged back in, so I'm reasonably sure that my cable is OK.
My biggest problem here is that none of the how-tos or FAQs match *both* my camera and my software.
To clarify, I'm really not even interested in unlocking the camera. I just want to be able to take pictures with it, DL them, erase them from the camera, and then be able to keep the camera for ongoing use. "Unlocking" it would be great, but really not necessary. If I can get the reuse mod to work, I'm going to do some mechanical and optical mods to the camera that I don't want to throw away after taking 25 pictures.
Any pointers that anyone could give me would be *greatly* appreciated!
Thanks!

Then you want to unlock it.

Thanks for the quick reply.
I'm totally new to this. I've seen some material that seems (?) to imply that you can DL without unlocking, but I may be wrong about that. If unlocking is the way to go, great.
Unless I'm mistaken, I think that the next step is to figure out how to set up comm with the camera. From what I've seen in the FAQs, I need to have the camera IDed in Windows Device Manager as (more-less) a CVS red camera, not a "USB device". *That's* where I'm stuck.

Get a palm 100 cable and mod it (the gow to is the same for the camcorder use search function) or solder in a USB connector. Download PV2tools2.19 install get a cronus based program (also use search function) hook camera to cable to computer point to drivers (located in the sofware) run PV2tools, open, unlock, take the challenge it spits out convert(use search function) put in to cronus program, run it, get responce put togather with challenge and put in a .txt file named pv2keys place in the same file as your pv2 .EXE file and enjoy

still stuck Thanks again for the reply. What you've described is the whole process. The problem is the part you mention, "point to the drivers". It doesn't work. The camera never gets recognized as a camera, and the driver install fails.
Is there a FAQ or how-to on how to get the drivers to work? (I assume) I can't hook up using PC2TOOL as long as the drivers don't work.
Thanks again.

up and runnin'! I'm using a modified Centronics connector. Careful examination indicated that it wasn't making as good a contact as I though it was. Some shimming of the back side of the inserted portion made "USB device" change to "Digital Camera". From there on it was smooth sailing. I took a couple of -*test*-('") pics, DLed them, and converted them using the new GUI rawGL. Works great!
Thanks for the help!!!
