ops-for-linux 0.15 on ubuntu 8.10/amd64 hi there,
getting ops-for-linux (v0.15 from here: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=145193&package_id=161974) compiled on an ubuntu 8.10/amd64 installation is a breeze. unfortunately, it doesn't run due to a buffer overflow:
root@tfbb-ubuntu:/media/stuff/packages/ops-for-linux# ./ops

It would be really great if someone could come up with pointers to resolve this issue. I can post the complete memory dump if that helps.
fwiw, compiling (and running) the same package on a more-or-less up to date gentoo installation (amd64 as well) works just fine.
edit: it doesn't help to supply a known-good saturnkeys.txt - so the crash seems to happen before the unlocking.
with kind regards,
t.

I'am super new to Linux /Ubuntu (about a month) so I can't help you there, but by chance do you have a cam with FW 53.14 ? If you do you can use the forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=5783" target="_blank">http://camerahacks.10.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=5783 (massdug app.)
I'am buying Linux books and mags. but I'am sure I'am at least 6 months away from even knowing what that means.
Good Luck

You may want to try the merged program that I did which is parts of ops and parts of pv2-tools which runs in Linux and Windows. I believe the link I had temporarily for that code has probably expired by now, but if you want to try it (it works with the camcorders and the still cameras both) let me know and I'll try to post it again and get back to you.

hi dave,
<...> but if you want to try it (it works with the camcorders and the still cameras both) let me know and I'll try to post it again and get back to you.
sure thing, i'd like to have a look at it. it shouldn't be too hard to pack it all in a nice *deb-package once it runs smoothly ...
thank you,
thoralf.

I've got an iso image of an installation CD for it for Windows, and instructions for how to install it from the CD for Linux. I'll get that posted up on one of the free sites and get back to you.
Thanks!

Well, if I did this right, you should be able to download the zip at:
http://www.4shared.com/file/96978742/f2d3bbfe/CVSUTIL.html
That will be for Linux. If you need for Windows, just download the other file for an ISO image.
For Linux, be sure you have libusb installed (installed by default in Ubuntu), the libusb development package, the gtk package and the gtk development package.
I don't know how to build a package for Linux and have it also know that it needs to check for each of those and if not installed then install them.
Let me know if you have any questions or problems.

By the way, just the stuff needed for linux should untar to a CVSUTIL folder in your home folder. If not, move the CVSUTIL folder there.
Please let me know how this works out for you. Remember to place your key(s) in the key file -> saturnkeys in the CVSUTIL folder.
