PureRead 0.0.3a fails on my Intel MacBook Just downloaded PureRead 0.0.03a to use on my Intel MacBook.
I have a M230 that I have unlocked using my Windows machine.
Maybe I'm missing something on how to use PureRead but when I start it up with my camera plugged in all it does is beachball until I unplug the camera.
Any advice?

I think the new Puretools came out an hour after this post. You may want to give that a try, but I really have no idea about Mac apps.

Could always try OSX86. 8)

Given that PureRead 0.0.3 came out last year, well before the M230 and Intel Macs, I don't think it'll work too well :)
PureTool might work, but it's unlikely because there are almost certainly endian-related bugs. Wait about 2-3 weeks, and they should be ironed out.

I've used Puretool (Version 0.2006.08.26) on my Intel Macbook without any problems. I also have an M230 Camcorder and I've unlocked it using my Windows Machine.
One thing I did notice is that the transfer rate is quite a bit slower than on my Windows machine :(
koikoi- 09-26-2006
 OK, I'm not arguing...
The slower speed is because the camcorder sometimes reports it's only capable of the slower speeds. Windows ignores this, but Linux and OS X honor it. PureTool will use a higher speed if the camcorder says it can handle it. I think it's a cable problem, you might want to try a shorter cable (maybe the next build will have some sort of speed indicator...)

Argue about what? :?
I had read some other post about the slower speed issue so I wasn't surprised by the downloading speed. I didn't want to sound like if I was complaining... just wanted to point it out so that AfterTen would be aware of the current situation. :D

i dont for two reasons.
1 its not legal
2 its not fully supported (3d accel, wireless, etc.)

1. Technically, if you own a licence to use OS X (such as buying 10.4.x and not installing it on your Mac Mini), you're not pirating it by using a "hacked" version (EULAs can't legally require that you run the software on only Apple's hardware). Now downloading OSX86 ISOs with bittorrent - that's definitly not legal. I really wish they'd release it as a patch against the retail DVD.
2. Not supported by Apple is quite correct. But when it comes to hardware support, great strides have been made in getting CoreImage and Quartz Extreme capable drivers working with most recent ATI cards. If you have a GMA900/950 graphics accelerator (many Centrino laptops and some of Intel's OEM desktop motherboards), CI/QE works right out of the box. Wireless is iffy, but there are workarounds.

Why use OSX period? Just use your handy gnome or KDE or windows...whatever...as long as it's not OSX :P

Boy, that'll draw the ire of many Mac users. You're lucky I primarially use Windows.

wyvez: Because PureTool shouldn't work - anyone who's written software knows you (almost) never get it right the first time, and PureTool has not been -*test*-('")ed on Intel. Having it work means I caught all the endian problems (I bet there are still some bugs, maybe not on paths you -*test*-('")ed... cameras, for example).

Mac users schmack users. Mac blows. Yeah their stuff looks cool and 'holy crap it runs windows now too!!' but I don't care. I've used windows forever, never had a problem. I suppose it comes from the fact I know how to keep it safe and what not, and the average user is oblivious to what the hell spyware is...but I love windows. It records my TV, has the onscreen guide, it's wonderful. Mac OSX can't say the same (yet?). Even if it could it'd use some apple branded TV tuners that'd suck because they'd jack the price higher than they do an iPod replacement battery.

PC = CHEAP

Actually, the beta of Vista is free if you download one of the public betas from Microsoft (but trust me, you get what you pay for). There's also the nasty little catch that if you "upgrade" over XP, you're stuck buying Vista (or reinstalling XP from scratch) when the beta expires on you. Play with Vista on a seperate partition, or ideally, a seperate hard drive. 8)
I couldn't see using OS X as my primary OS. There's still too many Windows apps I use on a regular basis that OS X just doesn't have. But compared to Linux, it's got iLife (don't write off Apple's bundled apps as gimmicks, they're actually pretty nice - especially iPhoto and iDvd), PhotoShop, Office, a chat client for an "unmentionable" online "personals" site that works better than the Windows version (and has more features!) and probably some other Mac stuff I'm forgetting.
But one thing OSX86 proves is that the la-*test*-('") breed of Macs are just a neat operating system bundled with a really expensive anti-piracy dongle. And Bobbarker's pretty much right, the biggest straw man arguments against Windows are that it's too easily pwn3d by malware and worms if you run IE and think a "firewall" is something inside your car's engine compartment. Those kinds of people need to use computers too, though. 8)
