PV2LCD A new app is born... https://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=134210&package_id=203950
Release notes:
What is this?PV2LCD allows you to display arbitrary images on your PV2 LCD screen. It can operate in a slideshow mode, or it can display a single image and exit. (leaving the image on the pv2)
PV2LCD accepts images in TFT or JPEG format.
What's required to run this?Your PC needs to be setup to work with the PV2 camera, pv2tool, and libusb. Your camera should be unlock patched, and you'll also need to patch your pv2 firmware with the included patcher. (the camera will still operate normally post-patching)
Which firmwares does this work with?Unknown. I just -*test*-('")ed it with 6550 2b, but I have a hunch it will work with most others. The firmware code that gets modified seems to be quite consistant from firmware to firmware.
What can I use this for?-Use some scripting+image magick to have your pv2 display your system uptime, top process information, etc.
-neato casemods incorporating the PV2!
-ghetto picture-frame
How do I use slide-show mode?Just pass the images you want as arguments pv2lcd (or drag'n'drop them onto the executable) and it will cycle through each one. The delay between images is selectable by the provided pv2lcd.ini file, which can be in the program directory of the directory containing the images.
If you have a batch of images that you want to display every time you boot, just set up a batch file that calls pv2lcd correctly.
How do I use one-shot-display mode?Just pass a single image as an argument to pv2lcd (or drag'n'drop just a single image)
When you get tired of looking at that image you can display another single image the same way you displayed the first one.
How do I request a feature?I really don't have an intention of maintaining pv2lcd, beyond any critical bugfixes. Sorry.
How do I do XXXX? This documentation is vague.Ask in the camerahacks.10.forumer.com (or camerahacking.com) forums.
BTW, morcheeba implemented something similar to this a while back as a -*test*-('") of sorts (never publicly released), so I'm hardly being super-original. However I did take the time and enable jpeg-format and firmware patching.

Wow this is totally kickass! I'm gotta try it now on my 27 6550.
Amyn- 09-13-2006
I'm not saying this is a bad idea, but what is the point of doing this? Because we can? (that works for me)
UnEmploymentDude- 09-13-2006
Hmm it went into bootloader mode,...
Nevermind I got it, run PV2 code, dont repalce firmware.
workds great billw!

UnEmploymentDude, It should work with replacing the firmware.bin file as well... that's the way I run it. Did you answer "yes" when pv2tool offered to fix the firmware checksum?
Amyn, it's useful as a fancy-but-cheap replacement for serial and usb LCD modules
bobbarker- 09-13-2006
Tried it on my nice type 30 and it worked for a single upload and didn't go after that (unpatched though...).
2B worked the same until I patched it...then it worked. Fantastic proggie. Now I need a nice picture frame for my PV2. I might put my old gameboy magnifying glass attatchment thing to it...
BillW- 09-13-2006
Yeah, as you discovered you definitely need to patch the firmware. The patch allows the pv2 LCD to be constantly updated.
Amyn- 09-13-2006
Problem: The patcher won't work on my camera. It says it can't read the FIRMWARE.BIN
I have a Type 2B, FW 6600 camera....
BillW- 09-13-2006
Using pv2tool, download FIRMWARE.BIN from the camera and put it in the same directory as the patcher. Run the patcher.
Then take the new FIRMWARE.lcdpatched.BIN, rename it to FIRMWARE.BIN and upload it to your camera's / directory. (accepting pv2tool's offer to fix the checksum of the modified firmware)
Amyn- 09-13-2006
Will it work with the FF2 drivers after it has been patched?
Amyn- 09-13-2006
It works great! Can you make it cycle through/repeat pictures?
I got it to work with a FW 6600, type 2B
Now we just need to figure out how to extend the lcd and place it outside ouf the camera...and then theres always live video feed :D
BillW- 09-13-2006
If you drag and drop a bunch of pictures on it, it will cycle through all of them over and over until you turn off the computer or unplug the camera.
I know you're joking about the video, but in case anyone gets any ideas... the images are transfered over usb 1.0, and the processor is slow as heck (which is why you seen the screen "wipe" as a transition between images.) So real video is out of the question.
bobbarker- 09-14-2006
I'm gonna try and do a quick little proggie that takes the jpegs, makes it 220px tall, then crops the sides to 280px...so stuff doesn't get squished.
WRONG RATIOS MAKE BOBBARKER ANGRY!!!

No I didnt. I'll try it agian later today, since the images wont cycle for me yet.

Wouldn't live video streaming be possible on a Saturn?
