pv2raw - 1.00 Release !
I have released the finished (well, for now) pv2raw source code - download from the SourceForge PV2DevKit site. There is a .zip file + check-ins to CVS. (Note: CVS checkins won't show up in the web CVS browser for a few hours). Changes: - Added CFA post-proc routine (used for some images) - Identified new fields in RAW headers: full tint, num dark columns - Added support for old (type-06 header) RAW files from early SMaL cameras - Decomp_Test app has command line options for CFA or thumbnail extract - Source cleanups for easier porting to other build environments Bonus: Early, unfinished code for RAW -> Adobe DNG. Next Step: daBass incorporates new code into RAWGL someday soon! :-)

I'm a little confused... Wouldn't it make sence to combine the .RAW file conversion right into the PV2TOOL so when pictures are extracted from the camera, they land on the person's computer in a usable format? Or for that matter... A stand alone utility that slurps the pictures out of the camera and converts them on the fly as it lands them on the person's hard disk?

RAW is a 'usable format'
Create; Its just not a final format, :?: which varies depending on the application When you only get JPG, your processing options are pretty limited. RAW allows one to perform sophisticated, and even unique, preprocessing that can not be done in common formats. I agree that Point-Shoot-Print is what many people want. :D IMO, I don't think many hear are working their butts off just so they can do ordinary vanilla stuff or just to save a few bucks off what is already easily available digital photography wise. The good thing here is that you can use the stuff here, with attribution, and with your own code to create your own persoanl preference in processing. You could make that your contribution and it might just be the Bees Knees for others.

OK! I'm less confused now! I thought this was just a .RAW to .JPG conversion program. I just finished playing with it and this is very impressive! Ease of use is important for the kids, so that is why I was asking... Maybe I can leverage some this code and some of PV2TOOL to make a stand alone untility that the kids can use... Incidently, I started a .BMP to .TFT converter because I wanted to label each camera and make it customized for each kid I gave one to. And then I found that had already been done and I loaded a few of the sample skins for the kids. I'll have to look harder for a place you guys havent already staked out turf! :)

You might check out my Smokey the Bear skin I just completed. It's posted on the Yahoo group Cheapdigitalcameras. It's actually a slightly modified theme - I originally did it for a 6yr old cousin.
