Anyone care to venture a guess why I am "Roadtripguy?" I get the automotive fetish but it begs the question: why the skydiver avatar? It certainly is enigmatic!

Actually, it never ceases to amaze me how many people think the avatar is The Unibomber. BillW, your age is showing by you knowing that it is indeed D. B. Cooper.

At first glance i thought i saw UNI then i took a second look and saw D.B.

Hey, at least know we know what you did with the money, DB... oops RTG...

I like the fully functional Nixie clock "hiding in plain sight" (below the bikini girl) at the start of the 1st video. :P

Roadtripguy- 05-14-2006

I've built several Nixie clocks from kits, and designed others from scratch. Those projects are temporarily on hold, as the weather has improved, and more important "roadtripguy" related projects take priority. The kit in the video is my favorite of the kits that I have built. It has many features, since it's basically a "hacker" kit. Too bad PD doesn't have a videocamera "hacker" kit. We'd all be in line to buy one I'm sure. Watch out for the Nixie clock bug. It's a BAD one, like these cams. Many parts you need are readily available on Ebay. Go to Ebay, get yourself some IN-18 tubes and 74141 driver chips, and get started! The nixie clock kit in the video can be had here. It is a LOT more fun to build than trying to solder teenie wires to a TSOP chip: http://www.tubehobby.com/ Roadtrip

I know what you mean... I'm just glad I haven't packratted as many tube amplifiers as I have PureDigital OTU cams. 8)

What kind of car is the blue one in the back?

Roadtripguy- 05-24-2006

The little blue car in the back is a 1966 Sunbeam Tiger. It's a little car, like an old MG, but it has a Ford 260 V8 shoehorned in under the hood.

KDX80Boy- 05-25-2006

Thats what i thought it was, but wasn't exactly sure. I have a 79 MGB but still with the 1.8L :(

Hey, how did you hack the 33.19 FW? I just got one and I was unable to find any guidance on unlocking it. PS And didn't Maxwell Smart (the late Don Adams) drive a Sunbeam in "Get Smart"? The 33.19 hack is pretty difficult, and not for the timid. Check out the link at the top of this thread for details on brandonu's smartmedia reader hack. It requires a LOT of soldering of tiny wires to the TSOP chip. If you're not an experienced soldererererer, you might want to pass on this one. I'm running at 50%. One good cam, one junk cam. Yes, that was a Sunbeam Tiger in the beginning of "Get Smart." I also know that Don Adams owned one personally (although I don't know if it's the one in the beginning of the show).
