The filters in the M220 and M230's are difficult to remove without damage to the lens. I permanently made one of my lens ir sensitive by simply cutting the plastic away enough to pop the filter out. But as a side effect of that IIRC is that you will lose a little bit of your focus cause the filter is actually coated on the inner part of one of the glass lens.

You should take your time, CamCam has a good idea about completely removing the plastic around the lens. I bricked my old camcorder(m230) and tried to shatter the IR lens with a hammer and al. Unsuccessful. I drove the al from one side to the other side of the lens. Hard to take pictures like that. What happens if you remove the lens completely and try to take videos with just the imager?
