I have a model 510 here brand new, as well as a M200 with the Brandonu method firmware on it. Not sure if all that soldering of tiny wires and such is gonna just teach me how to make a brick, but I'd be willing to barter or something for an unlocked one with the two I have here! otherwise, I can play the part of -*test*-('")monkey as well... I'll happily break it somehow if it helps out. I have a multimeter as well as a truckload of resisotrs, capacitors, old connectors, wire etc. :D

Although GotAnMP3 labeled both 7,10 for model 510 as gnd - they do not appear to be connected. Perhaps a little demonstration is in order? 8)

Save my credibility.
My wife had her eyes on a $100 camera for my 3 year old's birthday. I claimed that a CVS OTU camera would work better and cheaper, and that I would have no problem getting the pictures off. I picked up a 510 in Berwyn, PA, built a cable and searching for software led me here -- help! I can solder and probe but I don't have a scope. Should I buy a 410 and wait for progress on the 510s?

A 510 hack is months away, if not farther. Get the 410 while you still can!

bobbarker- 07-10-2006

My CVS ought to have them for quite awhile, it still is stocked with M200s....I guess these 510s will be even further away.

bobbarker- 07-10-2006

While I wouldn't be supruised it's a 23.82, it could easily be a 3.XX FW though, that CVS doesn't seem to sell PDs stuff much. I got a 3.4 back when 3.7s were prominent, while I doubt I can do it again, it's likely a 3.7 set of cams by now. I'm just amazed they havn't at least switched out to m220s or m230s. I know it's ohio, but it's not the amish part of ohio where they \"shun\" people....

Wow, interesting!! My source at Pure Digital says these communicate with WiFi. No, just kidding. I don't have a source. Looks like a challenge... I would have thought that USB was going to be a given because it's in *all* the cameras. Except the quicktake.

GotAnMP3- 07-10-2006

I would have thought that USB was going to be a given because it's in *all* the cameras. Except the quicktake. I owned a Fuji MX-1200, it didn't have USB. It used regular slow-as-snails-on-a-saltbed RS-232. I'm actually surprised they stuck with USB as long as they did. My guess is someone at the overseas manufacturer assured PD the cameras would be so secure that there'd be no need for a proprietary interface.

philip- 07-10-2006

All I have right now though, are the soldering irons-o'-death that RatShack sells, so it's out of the question for me until I get some better gear... My radioshack one was driving me nuts, so I ordered this one about an hour ago. I'll let you know how it works out. http://www.circuitspecialists.com/prod.itml/icOid/7307 Several people on this thread suggested it: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=35882 They mentioned that is is just a rebranded Hakko one.

philip- 07-10-2006

I bought another one... Removing the LCD and the lense assembly went horribly wrong on the last camera (thanks to some really strong double-sided tape), so I don't plan on doing that again. I'm going to post some pictures of what this camera looks like in its "unmolested" state, then I'll bust out the o-scope and see if I can make heads or tails of the new pinout. Try some robinsonol ligher fuel... Makes a great adhesive remover in a pinch.

bobbarker- 07-11-2006

And a good fuel to fill the zippos.

brite_eye- 07-11-2006

I am willing to pay half of processing price for a filled up 510 CD. Please PM me if you have filled a 510 and wish to obtain your pictures using the best available method (currently only method).

KiddKill- 07-11-2006

I don't have one, but I'm just curious, do you just want to see if quality has improved?

brite_eye- 07-11-2006

If quality is less than 410s I doubt specialized non-usb hacking will be worth the effort. I am particularly interested in how large imager is - how many megapixels (if PD extrapolates it may be hard to determine from just a CD) and if there is any Cypress Autobrite. Cypress introduced a 9mp high dynamic range imager last year that doesn't seem to have been picked up by any major camera maker. I seriously doubt PD (basically the only current user of Autobrite) would be using a 9mp but perhaps a downgraded 3mp version. http://www.photo.net/news/cypress_9_MP Then again it may simply be a cheaper 1mp imager along with the cheaper LCD. Could all the technological effort have been towards stopping hackers resulting in an absurd deterioration of quality?
