Figured this deserved its own topic. Also, could someone with the power move the posts in the thread about the startup/shutdown screens that refer to the sound over to this topic, please. :D Alright. Im online with AIM for the day, if you need assistance or to ask a question about getting the wav files on the camcorder swithced out. I am at work, so be patient if it takes me a second or to to respond. Also, im going to do a formal how-to with trouble shooting as soon as i get a chance. Good luck with all, and here's to silent camcorders!

Wee! I got it working again! All sounds + all screens are fixed. I now have a totally silent camera with custom screens! The 0 byte files weren't working for me, so I though, "Hey, what if I tried uploading a small dummy file?". I created a file 152 bytes long of dummy text, uploaded it, and it went thru. Then, I unplugged and replugged in my camera, connected, and uploading the file I wanted, and it went thru too. w00t!

Good for you twist! And thanks for posting the details. The more success stories we get, the easier it will be to help others figure it out. Now, to figure out how to change the sounds...havent attempted that one yet. Cant imagine what i would want to change it to though. heh.

I got all my sounds changed, eventually. Sound2.wav was giving me some problems, so I uploaded the 0 byte file, then it wouldn't let me re-upload the reduced volume one (it woud SAY it had... but...) started to put 0 byte files on all wavs, same thing, said it was working, but most of the time it didn't. Uploaded a renamed .txt file over Sound1.wav, then it started to cooperate or something, and I managed to get the files on and working. I'm not really sure what specifically I did that made it work (vs. not work) but it can be done, and even though the camera might hang at boot or shutdown, you can still connect and transfer files and I was able to get it all sorted out (eventually). Nice silent camera that boots normally.

Same with sound2 here... wouldn't take the 0db WAV file, kept getting "Error writing movie to camera". Created a 12b text file, uploaded, reset, uploaded 0db WAV... (had to do several iterations)... and finally the 0db WAV would upload. Had the same problem with sound8, but it wasn't as stubborn as 2. Also successfully updated splash & shutdown. Anyone know which sounds are associated to which action? Seems like 2 = shutdown, 8 = Vid. Delete Confirmed... anyone else on the others?

i'm getting no love from this one camcorder as well, sound2 is saying it's uploading fine, and locking the camcorder when it should be shutting down. i'm also getting trouble from shutdown.jpg as well, but it doesn't mind having a dummy file for that. i think 0=record, 1=startup, 8=delete, and playback=playback. what happened to 3-7 though?

Since it's the shutdown wav file, you may want to try deleting it instead of uploading a small file, then power cycle, then try the upload. I have no clue if it will work (might even make things worse) but it's something else to try.

i got it to go, just uploaded the silent sound1.wav in place of sound2.wav on a whim. it worked. now if i could get the shutdown screen to play nice... it swapped well with my other 2 cams, this youngest one seems a little more feisty than the others

Can anyone post these mysterious blank sound files? I wanna make my cam silent too! 8)

heres a link for a pack of silent wav's. i created them using the sound recorder. All i did was download the ones from the camera, then use the reduce volume option in the sound recorder menu until i couldnt hear a peep even with my speakers turn all the way up. http://www.foreverfromnow.com/cvs/files/cvscamwav.rar I have verified that all files work. My camcorder is completely silent now. I also suggest that you upload one at a time to the camcorder and close, reopen, and unlock the camcorder between each file. I had a slight problem with the SOUND8.WAV as it gave an error and caused my cam did the whole black screen on shutdown thing. All i did was reupload a 0 byte file, close, reopen and unlock, then upload the good one again. I suspect it had something to do with me uploading all of them back to back to back. YIPPEEEE!!!!! Silent Cam Operation!!!!!!!!!

I followed the directions exactly and after a few tries I got all of them to work except playback.wav has anyone else had problems with this? I did each file one at a time disconnecting between each and all are fine but playback. I tried using the other files like sound1 for playback but they dont work either. the only one I can upload is the zero byte, it is causing the camera to freeze on shutdown which isnt too big of a problem because it still works fine i just have to take out the batteries to turn it off. any suggestions on how to get playback.wav to work?
