I just modded my two "experimental" camcorders with the silent waves - and it is amazing how irritating those bloops were!
I noticed I had hangups on sound1.wav, and had to drop batteries to get the thing back up - but the rest went smoothly. Very nice mod. :)

Great! Can this be built into OPS?

the best & easyest way to replace files in P4 is to use Ops v0.10 & click on the download flash button, then download P4 (resource C) to your harddrive. use winimage to open the img file. once the image is loaded into WinImage, click on the file pull down menu, then on inject. inject the files you want to use. after the files have been injected, save the image.
Go back to Ops v0.10, click on upload flash, choose P4 (resource c) & upload your new image file. Make sure you close winimage before you atemp to upload the image file to avoid getting a file is use error.
Works great, first time i tried, changed all the sound files at one time, plus boot screen and shut down,no problems using ops 0.11
EDIT make sure to save a copy of the first flash.img so you can restore if needed

Shouldn't we pull the file-by-file method from the HOWTOs?
It seems to cause more bricking than anything else, and I've never had a problem with the p4 partition upload.
Please, new folks, read around. Review the sucesses and failures, don't just follow the first recipe you find!

i don't think we should totally kill those threads, but maybe just label them as "old method" or something

i got it working and i am sory i had posted the question about the screens in this sound section i do have one question about the sounds. what kind of sound quality can the camera handol? here is a nother one dos any one have any startreck sounds and posibly screens. thank you verry much for your pashionts with me.
carpespasm- 10-29-2005
the quality of the sound isn't the big deal, it's the fact that the partition on the cam the wav files are stored in is made with very little extra room. more quality or longer wav=larger file, and that partition is very tight for space.
that's why silencing the wav files is the only usual thing to do
docwebhead- 10-29-2005
I think the sounds need to be 8kHz or 16kHz. I've used ones as long as 120K, when the others are silent (to make room).
Also, WinImage's "Defrag Image" can be a big help.
Audacity is a freeware audio editor that I've used with success.
Enjoy!

thank you verry much now to make new sounds for the cam. i have made other mods thoughi will post them elswhere so i dont take up more space than needed.
atilladolphun- 11-21-2005
wile changing the sounds. i did encounter a weerd problem the program would sey it sucsesfuly uploaded the file. yet it did not i finly managed to get the sounds changed aroun. with some work. any one have any idea what is causing this or has ben causing this problem. i used ops .13 during the playing around with the cam.
carpespasm- 11-21-2005
directly uploading wav files tends to be a flaky activity. it's easier to edit the p4 image and upload it to get silenced wavs
atilladolphun- 11-21-2005
ok thank you next time i alter a cam i will try that idea that way if i kill the cam i will have a nother one to work with.

Flash Images vs. Files Yeah, I silenced my 3.62 with no problems at all by just downloading the flash image of the media partition (p4), replacing the sound files with silent ones, saving the image, and uploading it. Then I just closed the camera, cycled the power and heard nothing but sweet silence. Thanks for the tip, spasm, flash images are the only way to go for me now!
