Slow and flakey USB, and running CamcorderKit20 in wine Using ops 14 on a linux box with usb2 ports I only get 20Kbytes/second transfer & can only connect (saturn device visible in UsbView prog.) when I plug in an ancient usb hub.
I run the same linux on a different, old machine with usb1 ports, and get 60kbytes/s file xfer, which is still shy of 1MB/s full-speed connection. I'm afraid w98 & CamcorderKit20 is faster. Is it possible to run applications that use USB in wine - the windows-emulator for Linux? :x

sorry, WINE doesnt do drivers, and therefore cannot do ops. Downloads via the cameras works better in Windows than in Linux, because the camcorder says that it can only transfer at a certain speed. Linux and Mac realize that, but Windows just downalods at whatever speed it wishes. SaturnDownload might work for you after you have already unlocked your camcorder.

wine (and programs running under it) cannot access hardware in the way windows would because it does not have direct access to your hardware. As a result any kind of program that accesses particular hardware tends not to work in wine.
also : Wine stands for.
"Wine is not an emulator"
it is a compatibility layer NOT an emulator.

i swear i answered this before...lemme find it
EDIT: I said...
2. libusb-win32 doesn't really cooperate under wine for several reasons, one being that wine doesn't handle low-level drivers, such as used on machine init. only high-level for running normal applications. some things that are easy to implement, such as TWAIN , are there, but usb enumerating, bulk transfers, etc...much more difficult. short answer, no, it won't. install your native version of libusb through whatever version of linux you're using, then use the ops-for-linux package
all wine does is intercept library calls and provide a native implementation of the subroutines that windows applications need.
