You can acquire firmware.bin from your own camera. To do so, try following the "La-*test*-('") Hack - Legal Single Camera method" from here:

I edited the parent post to use brite_eye's sdram short to get into bootloader instead of a flash short. I always suspected that it would work fine after reading eye's technique, but confirmed it this weekend.
Kudos Mr. Eye!

PLEASE HELP i was following until i got to copy the firmware.bin but i dont have it

You need one to follow this method. Try brite_eye's legal method instead, which is only slightly more complicated but doesn't require firmware.

well i have my firmware from an unlocked camera.
but when i renameit to .pv2 it is nt recognized
the tool doesnt pick it up, ie i cant select the file to upload

are you saying, after you renamed the Firmware.bin to firmware.pv2 it isn't seen on your folder list anymore?
if so, you may have to tell your OS to show all files extensions, or hidden files, or system files.
I don't know if it may look like one of these to windows when the entension is changed to pv2, but if so, it doesn't hurt to be able to see all your files in the folder anyway.
If you're using XP, you set this in the FOLDER OPTIONS of the TOOLS pull down menu of any folder window you open. (like the "C" drive window, or such).. then use the VIEW TAB and scroll down the check-box markings listing, and any box dealing with hidden files, Hiding extensions, or showing system files being off, reset them to show it.

I have gone nuts trying to get this to work, I have been able to get it to say upload file successful when I try to load the firmware, but when I hit unlock firmware it doesn't work and says \"couldn't change directory to /\"
I am using a 6600 2B
Any ideas?

The firmware your uploading, is it permanently unlocked? If so, after it says successful, hit open and then unlock. After that you can upload your backup firmware or flash image.
If not, you will need a permanently unlocked firmware to continue.

Re: Unlocking Cameras with unknown keys - hardware method
- You need to short about the 5th and 6th pins (counting down from the bottom right of the sdram chip). While you're shorting the pins, slide the cable in - make sure you get 2 bootloader beeps. If you get no beeps or 4 beeps, slide the cable out, move the jumper slighly up or down, and try again.
...
If you are following my method it is pins 6,7 counting up from bottom right!

5th and 6th worked for me, but I changed it to jibe with the quote.
