where to get "disposable" camcorder
are cvs/riteaid/duanereade still selling those "disposable" camcorders? i've been to a few cvs and cannot find them..... i'm in nyc btw...

nicknaggriff- 03-25-2008

ive only been able to find them in the bigger cvs`s, the smaller ones usually dont carry them (around me at least)

bobbarker- 03-26-2008

I dunno if Duane Reade ever sold the cameras, try a CVS or Rite-Aid.

and since burningman / cronus key can unlock probably any camcorder, its best to get an m230 since it has zoom and other stuff i've read that the m230 contains a red tab(for the battery compartment) and red-white exterior, is that right? ..... and CVS has a $4 off $20 coupon, i'll try to find one @ a big CVS but i'm thinking of doing an IR mod, and the wiki said that the m200 has a removable filter, but nothing said about the m230...

yea, for an ir mod, you want an m200. any other kind is really really hard to do it with. you can check the model number by simply looking at the sticker on he bottom of the camera. you can see it through the packaging.

thanks for your advice, nicknaggriff and bobbarker. hopefully i'll find one...

got a camera from a large cvs, but its m230.... oh well, harder to make an IR mod......... trying to make a cable right now just a question... from: http://www.maushammer.com/systems/dakotadigital/usb-cable.html it shows the pin functions of the Palm III cable.... wouldn't it be better if i bought a USB Palm III cable like http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-F3X1081-03-3-Feet-Palm-Cable/dp/B00006HTEU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1206915930&sr=8-1 http://www.amazon.com/ActiveSync-Charge-fits-Palm-Tungsten/dp/B000I1D2M4/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1206915679&sr=8-13 i'm having trouble making the computer detect my homemade USB, probably bad connections, so i have to redo it again :( is anyone here still selling pre-made cables? think my soldering skills aren't good enough for my homemade cable to stand several uses

that should work, but your still going to have to solder, as the usb cable that comes with it wont work for the camera (it has different connection points).

well, i did a really bad hack job and soldered a usb wire directly on the board.... and it worked!! i'm running Ops and Burningman on VMWare(Virtual machine w/ XP, b/c the usb driver that the program installs messed up with my own usb drivers on Vista, so running on virtual machine ...... and burningman might require a date change that would mess up the scheduled recordings in my vista media center........ virtual machine works too ) what are the most common edits made? i've edited it to 640x480, 60 minute max, and i'm going to change the start/shutdown screens.... what other edits are good? and what is the "optimal" settings to max recoding length with quality? i remember seeing info that the memory is a 128MB chip, and if i use 640x480 + good bitrate, its like 6MB a minute and so only about 20 minutes?) i love this camcorder... its image quality isn't as great as my actual camera' video, but the sound is like stereo+great! btw, thanks for all the guidance :)

i normally use 512x384 at the m225 default. good enough for recording stuff in the car, along with fast motion at the arcade, at about 10-15min/recording.
