Windows App to switch between camcorder and webcam mode
I've put togeather an app that will allow you to switch between using the camcorder w/ ops and a webcam. Basicly, it changes drivers so you don't have to manually switch back and forth. I started out just to see if it could be done, but decided to add some improvements. The original thread is here: http://camerahacks.10.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=3752 The drivers used for 'webcam' mode are the ones mentioned in this thread: http://camerahacks.10.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=3352 Thought I'd move this to the 'Applications' area... Improvements to the original app are: 1. Icon sits in the system tray, allowing you to right-click to change modes. 2. Program can be set to the last mode you used and automatically switch to that mode when the program is started. 3. Program detects insert of camcorder and sets mode according to options above. 4. When changing modes, you'll get visual feedback as the process happens. It takes longer to switch to webcam mode, but either way shouldn't be more than a few seconds. 5. Driver confirmation dialog that comes up when switching to webcam mode - 'Unsigned driver ...' - is automatically closed. Screen shots and download here: http://blog.glhtools.com/index.php Glen.

I'm having trouble using the webcam feature with AIM or Yahoo. Netmeeting works wonderfully and the link in My Computer to DV 6800(video) yields a beautiful video stream. AIM does not detect the camera. Yahoo finds the camera, but only shows a black screen.

I'm so curious, can I able to use my CVS 3.40/B3 as a webcam? Is there a free driver that I can download and use as webcam along with your app? Thanks!

The app has the drivers and yes it will work.

Bobbanker, Thanks! I'll give it a shot :)

I really like this program and this made the entire process really easy, thank you so much for making this program. The only question I have left is, if I want to continuouly record to my desktop, what program should I use? *edit* if anyone else is wondering, Windows movie maker actually works quite well. And the video quality is about 5x what the camera normally records to.... interesting.... Now, what program to use to broadcast a live feed to the internet?

For a great *free* webcam program, use this: http://deadpirate.com/index.php?page=simplecam Doesn't get cheaper or simpler than that program right there.

Now, what program to use to broadcast a live feed to the internet? Windows Media Encoder works very well and it's free. Best of luck finding it on Microsoft's site, though. I hate that place...

I dunno about linux apps for this, I'm sure there is something out there. Maybe some more wine!! I've tried Windows Media Encoder, it's not too shabby, but bloated and over complicated for a simple task. Can this thread be stickied cause it's a fantastic app for the saturns.

I hate that place... what were you saying about microsoft's search site ? http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/results.aspx?pocId=&freetext=Windows%20Media%20Encoder&DisplayLang=en which one to get? -- they show several, including an SDK for it. (v9)

what were you saying about microsoft's search site ? *cough*, *cough*, *cough* This download is available to customers running genuine Microsoft Windows. As described in our privacy statement, Microsoft will not use the information collected during validation to identify or contact you. I downloaded it back before Microsoft started with all this annoying WGA crap. One of those versions is just the basic encoder, which can capture video from your desktop, stream live video from a webcam/video source and convert/stream media files. It's actually a pretty handy thing to have around.

there's two "simple" ones there (that i can guess at) one at Link Windows Media Capture 9 Series This tool enables video content authors to capture uncompressed AVI files with mono, stereo, 5.1, or 7.1 channels of audio, with up to 24-bit resolution and sampling rates up to 192 KHz. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- and the other one that looks like it may be "simple" :) at Link Windows Media Encoder 9 Series Download Windows Media Encoder 9 Series, a powerful tool for content producers who want to take advantage of the many innovations in Windows Media 9 Series. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- the Windows Media Encoder 9 Series looks like its not as popular (just 60 rating) but the Windows Media Capture 9 Series looks like it has more people getting it (with 1864 rating) does this one look like it could be the one? its so damn confusing at micronuts :x ----------------------- there's always the SDK if you want to design your own apps here Link Windows Media Encoder 9 Series Software Development Kit Download the updated version of Windows Media Encoder SDK. The set of interfaces in this SDK makes it easy for a developer to script the behavior of the encoder itself. ============================ and the 64BIT version here - Link Windows Media Format 9.5 Software Development Kit (SDK) x64 Edition The Microsoft Windows Software Development Kit (SDK) provides the documentation, samples, header files, libraries, and tools you need to develop applications that run on Windows.

I downloaded it back before Microsoft started with all this annoying WGA crap. Who even "activates" XP anymore? :P glhdesigns, Although I haven't tried it personally, it looks like an awesome piece of software. Thanks alot!

I had a copy of the MS Encoder 9 somewhere. I'm still in shambles trying to find old (sometimes obscure) software since my laptop was stolen last year. I'm pathetic.
