it increases the amount of freespace on the drive. that partition is normally very full. |

also, those are the files that are used when the camera "is ready to be recycled" after the cvs processing, therefore they are unneeded (unless you want to get em recycled.) |

Well I'll try that then because doing it step by step with the how to on page one isn't working. After I try to upload my file my camera always goes into a hung state where I have to remove the batteries for it to turn off. Then it works fine. |

Take a look at the procedure described here: http://camerahacks.10.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?p=9198#9198
Even though it's a potentially dangerous flash write, IMO it's safer than uploading files directly to p4. So far I've only heard success stories on partition flash reads/writes to p4.
p4 seems to be at least somewhat fragmented... I believe that this is throwing off the camcorders' normal file write routines on p4. I've been meaning to try the "defrag image" option in Winimage on a p4 image to see if it improves subsequent file writes, but haven't gotten around to it. |

when I go to upload flash onto the partition it warns me that my file is almost twice as large as the partition. What am I doing wrong? |

I used following method using OPS 0.9:
1)Downloaded the files to a drectory of my choice in my hard drive.
2)Made a backup copy of downloaded file into another directory in my hard drive.
3)Edited and modified the SPLASH (typed my name in there).
2)deleted the above files from camcorder.
3)Disconected the cable.
4)Reconected the cable.
5)clicked on update directory.
6)then upload the file in a sequence a follows (I uploaded bigger files first):
SPLASH.JPG
CAMPROCE.ZBM
PROCES~3.JPG
PROCES~3.ZBM
SHUTDOWN.JPG
LOGO.JPG
Now disconect the cable and it is done.
If you still have problem, then try delete the above files and uploading them in a different sequence (except SPLASH.JPG wich should be uploaded first). It should work. It worked for me. Though you do it at your own risk.
Good Luck, |

Beware deleting any image file you do not intend to replace. For the sake of your cameras at least replace them with 0 byte files. I now have a dead camera on my hands thanks to this ignorant error i made....All in all though it was cool while it lasted. |

Why dont you use the flash file ??
its so easy :
download flash : p4
open WinImage
Change the files you want
save as "p4 Mod"
upload flash : p4 Mod
and voila..
fast and easy and you can change all the file at once |

I did that the second time. But at first i was given an option of deleting files to make room for my files. That was my mistake oh well. I wont be that dumb with my next one |

Just did this and got the SPLASH.JPG working but the SHUTDOWN.JPG is giving me some issues. Oh well I will play with it latter. |

The deleting files method works great, but the second and also important part of the method is to delete files that aren't actually used! |

hcker2000, I suggest you download a flash image of the p4 partition, open it in something like Winimage, replace whatever files you wish, and then upload the flash image to the cam.
Some others in this thread have done so with great success... IMO it's a safer method than uploading files to p4. |

Ive just done that as I was going to replace all the img and sound so changing them in the image was faster for me.
It worked on frist try (i mean... after first flash upload of the image)
do it ! |

Here is the win32 binary I had 100% success with:
http://sylvana.net/jpeg-bin/jpg6bexe.zip
The basic steps:
1. Create a 240x220 bitmap using a paint program (splash.bmp)
2. From the commad line use cjpeg to convert it to a jpeg:
cjpeg -sample 2x1 splash.bmp (creates splash.jpg)
3. Use WinImage to put the new splash.jpg into the partition4 image file
4. Upload the new partition4 to the camcorder |
