I finally found a camera lens that pretty much works perfectly as an IR lens for M220's and M230's. The nice thing about the small camera, is that it can have the removed M220/230 lens transplanted to it and still function.
The small lens from the camera does require the IR filter to be removed from the lens assembly, but it is way easier to accomplish than attempting to remove the filter from a M220/230 lens. With a small amount of teaking, both the camcorder and the camera are both functioning good.
The only noticable flaw to using the cameras lens is that you have to either remove the glass cover from the case of the camcorder or remove the black painted circle from it. Even after doing this your videos will still show a very small rounding of the edges. I myself did not want to remove the glass piece entirely, so I gently scraped the black paint from it and reinstalled it.
This a link to the camera's spec sheet, well what I could find of a spec sheet. ~860k

I will post some images of the camera and the camcorder with their lens swapped out later this evening. I will also post some sample video and some still shot from the camera.
I forgot to mention that this camera also doubles as a webcam. I works pretty well too.
Modded camera with M230 lens.
Lens threaded into camera's lens socket and chopped up cover piece.
Modded camcorder with camera lens. IR filter and holder removed.
Filter cap and filter removed.
Assemled w/o IR filter in place. |

Yeah I know it's silver, it was the readily available.
I have 2 of them, one was a gift and the other I purchased. The one I bought was $15.99 right before Christmas. They occasionally pop up on Ebay for $10-$20 shipped. |

Well judging by the non-existant nature of this little camera, I guess it isn't a good thing. Unless you already have one or can find one.
CVS had them before Christmas, so maybe they can be found in the store still. They retailed for $19.99 I think. |

I like the lens on your camera, that adjusting wheel is sweet.
Here is the little keychain cam i have. The name on it says VistaQuest model VQ1005 it has a SD port on it for a card but i think it has 16 meg onboard.

Nice pictures Bower,
I can see SQ908 on chip.
IIRC SQ905 records in raw mode. Have you tried an SD card? I am wondering whether camera is recording as jpg or raw (and then post processing using PC software to obtain jpeg files).
Admins - please consider adding a separate section for non PD cameras. It may also help appease PD, by avoiding having an exclusive PD hack attack site. |
