With the release of Ops 0.5, I figured we should have a thread where we can all share our replacement startup and shutdown screens that we use on our camcorders, as well as replacement sound files if anyone's gotten those to work yet. Don't post an image or sound file or other custom cam entity if you haven't SUCCESSFULLY uploaded it to your camcorder and gotten it to work.
Go! |

Here's what I'm using for my startup screen for now. It's pretty simple but I'll be spending some more time on a better one sometime.

from my guenea pig camcorder that gets all the abuse, it also has silent wav files, no stickers, and still works like it came from the store.
from my other camcoder i treat a little better and gets things done to it after i make sure the other one can handle it
EDIT: just got a third camcorder to give to a friend for her birthday tommorow, and gave it a hello kitty screen. no shutdown screen other than it being blanked out since it wasn't working well... oh well.

Well, I took a "stab" at a customized screen pack...
http://home.cinci.rr.com/mmcadams1/images/pure_evil.zip
...all work perfectly for me.
...edit...
I ran into a situation on camcorder #2 where I seem to have gained some
extra bytes in p4 or something... only by using the dummy file in place of
PROCES~3.JPG can I fit all 3 custom screens in now. I have no clue how
I did it or where the bytes are hiding... |

Frog cam?
I should make that into a boot screen. But it doesn't turn into a horse when I'm looking sideways at it |

YES! I finally found a method of uploading that works every time. Instead of using a dummy file, I upload twist's "hello" screen first, then right after I upload the one I want to use. WORKS EVERY TIME! WOOT!
EDIT: Here are some of my splash screens:

matbe if you were standing on your head & closed one eyes you could see it
if that fails, you could always try viewing this image:

I think this should be made a sticky for people who want to change their screens, but want to try out some samples first. Twist should also post his "hello" and shutdown screen so we have a collection all together. |

Here you go:
Startup Screen
Preview:
Download: Hello Splash Screen
Shutdown Screen
Description: It's the same as the CVS shutoff screen, except the "Turning off" text is centered, and "CVS" is removed.
Download: Alternate Shutdown Screen
Both these are 100% guarenteed to work on all cams, PCB versions B1 to B3. |

Hey twist, I was messing around with my camcorder trying to make and upload a new picture, and now when I try to upload your "hello" it won't even do that! I tried deleting the SPLASH.JPG file but it just comes back on startup. The only th ing that works is uploading a 0 byte file over the other 0 byte file, but then it wont allow me to upload anything else like it used to Do you have any Idea why? any easy way to reset it? |

Try uploading a really dummy file over SPLASH.JPG. (< 1KB file of junk text). Then disconnect & reconnect your cam and try uploading a regular splash pic. |

oh man thanks twist that worked PERFECT! Thanks again!
By the way, I made a file exactly 1KB (1024 bytes) by just typing in a notepad document until one line was filled. Turns out that one line in Notepad is exactly one KB! ;) good luck all!
EDIT: Here are some more screens for you guys
DOOM ON THE CAMCORDER!!!!111one ;)

That apple one is slick, fits the color scheme of the cam nicely.
You should make a second one for the Pure Digital logo replacement, except have the progress "circle" filled in more to create the illusion of the camera loading on bootup. |

All very nice - thought I'd finally join the fun after lurking here since Saturday night.
Haven't had success with getting it's sister screen on for the shutdown but I'll keep at it.
Can't wait till the firmware is understood and the compression becomes adjustable. Just wish I could contribute to the effort more. Been 15 yrs since I messed with any code.
Just went with a USB-B port to be most flexible for me. |
